The next advent calendar in our Christmas in July series is Andy Warhol’s Christmas Countdown from Galison. Andy Warhol, the King of Pop Art, was an artist and filmmaker, who is famous for not only his celebrity and advertising art, but also his famous quote (prediction come true?): “In the future, everybody will be world famous for fifteen minutes.” Very prescient, right? Andy Warhol loved Christmas and was the designer behind years of Tiffany’s Christmas art back in the 1950s. The Andy Warhol Christmas Countdown includes 12 days of Christmas puzzles and a full-color poster of the images.
Each Andy Warhol Christmas Countdown jigsaw puzzle is of a different piece of Warhol’s Christmas art, including two shoe pieces. If you’re not familiar with Warhol’s work, he is also famous for shoe art, after spending time as an illustrator for a shoe company (I. Miller, if you’re a shoe fan). The puzzle pieces are about an inch in size and are fairly uniform. Each puzzle is 80 pieces that combine to form a 5”x7” rectangular shape with the image on a white background.
TOP TIP: Open the plastic bag of pieces carefully, so you can store them safely for next year. Or, put the pieces in zipper-lock bags.
