Hoppers Movie from Disney/Pixar is Out on Digital!

What a great movie to own for multiple viewings as a family! Disney and Pixar’s Hoppers is on digital platforms including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home now and also on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD June 2!

In Hoppers, we meet young Mabel as a quiet, animal-obsessed child who finds peace and belonging in a hidden, impossibly vibrant glade alongside her wise grandmother. The glade isn’t just pretty scenery; it’s a living sanctuary where dozens of species coexist in visible harmony, and Mabel learns to center herself by simply being there: watching, listening, breathing with the land. Years later, at 19 and freshly in college, Mabel returns home to discover that progress—embodied by Jerry, the slick, self-important mayor of Beaverton (say his name like it leaves a bad taste in your mouth)—wants to bulldoze the glade for a new highway bypass. “Connecting Beaverton to the world” is the slogan. Mabel sees it for what it is: the erasure of the one place that ever made sense to her. Refusing to accept it, Mabel goes full guerrilla conservationist. She infiltrates the team of scientists hired to “study” the glade’s wildlife (likely as a pretext for greenlighting the project) and even embeds herself among the animals themselves—using her deep knowledge of their behavior, her gift for quiet observation, and more than a little clever improvisation. Think Never Cry Wolf meets Whale Rider with a dash of Fern Gully energy, but grounded and character driven.

In Disney and Pixar’s “Hoppers,” animal lover Mabel (voice of Piper Curda) seizes an opportunity to use a new technology to ‘hop’ her consciousness into a life-like robotic beaver and communicate directly with animals. As she uncovers mysteries in the animal world beyond anything she could have imagined, Mabel befriends charismatic beaver King George (voice of Bobby Moynihan) and must rally the entire animal kingdom to face a major, imminent human-threat: smooth-talking local mayor Jerry Generazzo (voice of Jon Hamm). The all-star voice ensemble also features Meryl Streep, Dave Franco and Kathy Najimy. “Hoppers” is directed by Daniel Chong (“We Bare Bears”) and produced by Nicole Paradis Grindle (“Incredibles 2”), with an original score by Mark Mothersbaugh.

The animation and story-telling teams did a great job weaving everything together to get the messages across without the viewing feeling preached at or weighed down with the heaviness of the subject matter. The ending is nothing like I expected, but still hopeful. The animation is gorgeous and every scene is just so well timed. It was a treat to watch and still gave us plenty to think about at the finish.

Somethings to think about from Hoppers:

Touch grass, literally: The healing power of real nature vs. abstract “progress.”
Connection vs. disconnection: Mabel’s alienation from human society contrasted with her profound belonging among animals and the land.
What “saving” something actually means: Is it protests and signs, or deep understanding, patience, and becoming part of the ecosystem you’re fighting for?
The arrogance of “improvement”: Mayor Jerry as the avatar of well-meaning (or not-so-well-meaning) development that steamrolls the irreplaceable.
