The decorations are up, the lights are bright, the carols are caroling. So, what’s left to do for Christmas? It’s time to break out the holiday house kit. But we’re not building gingerbread this year. We’ve got the Cookies United’s Cheez-it Holiday House Kit! Cookies United is the bakery that brings us Cake Bites, the little packs of petit fours in dozens of delicious flavors and themes. And who doesn’t love Cheez-its, the bite-sized cheese crackers that also come in different flavors (but the classic is the way to go).
What’s in the box?
Cookies United’s Cheez-it Holiday Hose Kit includes pre-baked Cheez-it cracker house walls and roof, a package of pre-mixed frosting, a small bag of Cheez-it crackers, and a bag of holiday sprinkles, plus a tray to build the house on. The building instructions are on the back of the box, and it’s very simple to put together. Once you’ve got the basic structure built, it’s time to decorate. There’s also a QR code on the box that takes you to a tutorial on how to build the house.
I followed the decorations on the box, but you should definitely build your own Cheez-it Holiday House. The icing is sweet and delicious, and it works very well as mortar for attaching not only the decorations, but it really holds the more solid pieces of the house walls and roof together. And it doesn’t take long to set, either. If you’re building with your littles, you don’t have to worry about patience. By the time you’ve constructed the house and then set up the decorations, the house is set and ready.
TOP TIP: Have more Cheez-its on hand. There aren’t enough in the included bag to fully decorate the Cheez-it Holiday House.
I used only the materials included (except I added more Cheez-its that we had in the house). The sprinkles are sugar baubles, gingerbread men, and candy canes. They are very thick, so they won’t crumble or break as you use them. As you’ll see below, my house lacks any finesse, but your house will be as good as you can make it (and, obviously, better than mine). A more dab hand could have finessed the icing into icicles and paint for the house.
TOP TIP: Check your pantry to see what else you can use to decorate. I considered using mini Zesta crackers to create a snowy roof effect. The included sprinkles work really well, but you can add to the decorations with sprinkles and candies that you have on hand, too.
Cookies United Cheez-it Holiday House Kits will also make perfect holiday gifts for all your friends and family. In addition to the Cheez-it Holiday House Kit, Cookies United also make dozens of other houses, including Girl Scout cookie kits, various candy-based kits, Stranger Things kits, and even a Swiss Miss kit. Their Cake Bites could also be used to decorate the Cheez-it Holiday House. I am very intrigued by the Girl Scouts Cake Bites!
