Food Fight Frenzy Game Review!
Ultra Pro has a new card game by Kim Vandenbroucke! Food Fight Frenzy is an elimination game that combines dice and tiles. The game is played in rounds until someone has played all their tiles. It’s a fun family game that will liven up any gathering. It’s a quick game, but the timing depends on how many players there are. The more, the merrier, and the quicker the game.
What’s in the box? There are 72 character tiles and 13 food dice. There are six different characters, each of which is being pelted by a different food. The chicken is dodging Oreos; the cat is splatted by a banana; the dog is dodging broccoli; the bear is being sprinkled with blueberries; another dog is bonked by a ketchup bottle; and the puffin is slapped with a slice of pizza. The 13 food dice are oversized (good for little hands, but not good for little mouths). Each side is one of the foods battering the animals.
How to play Food Fight Frenzy:
Scramble the tiles and deal an equal amount to each player, depending on the number of players – the more players, the fewer character tiles per person. The number of dice used also depends on the number of players – the more players, the more dice in play.
TOP TIP: You can make the game a bit more difficult by playing with only one hand. You could even make the game a bit more even by having the older players use one hand and the younger players use two.
At the beginning of each round, the players flip five of their cards face-up. Those are the only cards used in that round. In the first round the youngest player rolls the dice, then yells (or quietly demands) “Go!” All players then match as many of their five animal tiles to the dice that match the food on the tile by balancing the tiles on the dice. If a player drops a tile or knocks it off the die, they have to stop playing that round and pick up two tiles from the discard pile. The remaining players continue until the round ends.
Players can only match one tile at a time (hence the one hand or two option). The first player who runs out of tiles to place (no matter how many of the five in play have been matched) yells (or quietly demands) “Stop!” and the round ends as soon as each of the other players matches the tile in their hand when the round ended. The tiles are removed from the dice and added to the discard pile.
TOP TIP: Be mindful when playing, because if you yell (or quietly demand) “Stop” and there is still a tile that matches a die, you are out of the round and everyone else keeps playing as usual.
How to win Food Fight Frenzy:
The goal of Food Fight Frenzy is to be the first person to get rid of all of your character tiles, including any penalty tiles you’ve earned during previous rounds, and yell (or quietly demand) “Stop!” If there’s a tie, the two winners take 5 more tiles each and play until only one person has won.
Food Fight Frenzy is marked 6+ for age recommendations, but, if you play together, you could team up with a little, as long as you keep an eye on the dice. Food Fight Frenzy is for 2 or more players (or teams, if you include your littles). It’s fun and quick and would be a great way to distract your littles on long car trips or in hotel rooms. It’s not conducive to air travel, sadly, because the field of play is bigger than your tray table.
