SPOILER ALERT!
I have been addicted to Slow Horses since season one. It is a terrific spy type drama based around the rejects from the British MI5 organization, these folks have been demoted and yet manage to stay on top of the crisis’s better than the supposedly regular agents. Based on the book series of the same name, this is superior TV. The lead character is played by Gary Oldham and he is superb! Season five is streaming now, stay tuned weekly until they release it all, it is well worth every second of viewing:
This quick-witted spy drama follows a dysfunctional team of MI5 agents—and their obnoxious boss, the notorious Jackson Lamb—as they navigate the espionage world’s smoke and mirrors to defend England from sinister forces.
And who just died in the most recent episode!
At this year’s New York ComicCon I got to interview some of the cast, and it was a treat!
Director Saul Metzstein started us off talking about how this show has the best crew ever. After five seasons (and yes, number six is a definite!), most of the original crew are still working on the show, so there is a definite short hand with them, so everything goes smoother than in other shows. He loves that it is an easy show to do, and a huge pleasure, the cast are terrific. Everything I expected to hear about one of my favorite shows!
Nick Mohammed as Zafar Jaffrey. Nick read all the books when they came out, so it was an honor for him to get the audition! It was an honor to meet this Ted Lasso star, he is a humble fellow, and it was great to be able to tell him I had watched his earlier walk on the British panel shows. This is a super talented and versatile man! I related to him as the parent of a troublesome child, in the show, not real life!
Christopher Chung as Roddy Ho! What a great interviewee, he talked about one of the opening scenes as he is dancing in the disco, calamities all around, and this contrasted with the folks focused only on themselves as London starts to burn! People are busy staring at their own shoes, ignoring the crisis’s all around them.
He shared his wife said he sleep talks in Roddy’s accent when asleep! And I completely forgot to congratulate him on his Doctor Who episode!
James Callis as James Whelan! James shared about working with Gary Oldman. He is a generous actor; he elevates everybody’s acting game. A pleasure to work with. Not just the uncaring farting constantly old man that we see running Slough House! Of course I had to ask about his philandering (the character, not the actor!), something that seems to catch a lot of these Brits!
Ruth Bradley plays Emma Flyte! What a pleasure to meet her! A tough MI5 agent, when will these folks learn the Slough House staff always skirt the law and save the day, although sometimes there is a price to pay!
Get Apple TV now and binge the five seasons of this excellent show!

I love Slow Horses too! The dynamic among the MI5 rejects is refreshing. It’s interesting to hear about the crew’s camaraderie. Monkey Mart
