Expanded Teen Accounts built-in protections to address parents’ concerns about how their teens are spending their time on social media.
-
With these changes, teens under 16 will be prohibited from going Live unless their parents give them permission to do so. We’ll also require teens under 16 to get parental permission to turn off our feature that blurs images containing suspected nudity in DMs. We’ll start including these updates in the next couple of months.

The launch of Teen Accounts on Facebook and Messenger, starting today, so that parents have more peace of mind wherever their teens are using social media, across Meta’s apps.

New data on how the Teen Accounts roll-out has been going, for example:
-
Instagram has moved 54 million teens into Teen Accounts – with many more to go, as it continues to roll out globally.
-
Instagram shares that 97% of teens aged 13-15 keep their built-in protections on, meaning that parents can have peace of mind knowing teens are in safe, age-appropriate experiences from the start.
-
-
Instagram is also continuing to listen to parents about what they want, and that includes conducting research to understand how they feel about the changes. In a recent survey, conducted by Ipsos and commissioned by Meta, they asked US parents how Teen Accounts would help them and their teens, and heard that:
-
Overall, nearly all parents surveyed (94%) say Teen Accounts are helpful for parents, and 85% believe Teen Accounts make it easier for them to help their teens have positive experiences on Instagram.
-
A strong majority of parents perceive the default protections provided by Teen Accounts as beneficial, with over 90% saying each of the features are helpful in supporting their teens on Instagram.

We have to keep an eye on our kids! Years ago, I wrote a blog post about Finsta accounts, fake Instagram accounts, meaning, they were not for the eyes of the parents! They had their main Instagram account for all to see, and this Finsta account that was only for their friends, not for the prying eyes of the adults! These kids are too smart, thanks you META for helping us protect our children!
