Dark Winds Season Three Premieres Sunday, March 9th on AMC!
I was so excited to sit in on the discussions with the Dark Winds cast, my new favorite show on AMC! Just in time for the premiere of season three, coming this Sunday, March 7th!
From wiki: Dark Winds is an American psychological thriller television series created by Graham Roland, based on the Leaphorn & Chee novel series by Tony Hillerman. The series follows three Navajo Tribal Police officers, Joe Leaphorn, Bernadette Manuelito, and Jim Chee, in the 1970s Four Corners area of the American Southwest.
This is the 1970’s, so we are watching a time period vastly different from our own, along with even more discrimination and prejudice in society for ethnic groups, in this case the indigenous native Americans. This series also gives one an opportunity to learn about this dark history in our country as to how these folks were treated.
In the first episode we are reminded of appalling behaviors practiced on native American women. Forced sterilization without consent. There is so much history in this show, that makes watching Dark Winds even more important than the wonderful entertainment value. So much history that most of us will now get to learn. Any opportunity to teach about life on the reservations, even as late as the 1970’s, is an important education for us all.
It was wonderful to meet the cast! And a little weird, I had watched an episode the night before, and here they are, right in front of me!
All native actors, some of these folks may be recognizable from their other work: Kiowa from The Twilight Saga and Zahn was in my favorite, Westworld.
They were all very proud to be part of this important show, and I even discussed with them how the first season’s showrunner was not up to the task regarding the showcasing of the real native American situation. That changed in season two, and the show is so successful that it has already been renewed for season four, even before season three premieres!
Dark Winds Season Three Premieres Sunday, catch up on the first two seasons if you need to, you will be thanking me for this recommendation!
And of course, my photos with this super talented cast!
