It’s the end of January, which means this is our final puzzle review for National Puzzle Month. As we mentioned in our Agatha Christie review, Laurence King Publishing has a series of beautiful puzzles, designed by various illustrators, that encompass the worlds of various literary authors, characters, and places, including Shakespeare; Frankenstein; Bridgerton; and more.
The World of Sherlock Holmes jigsaw puzzle is an intricate Doug John Miller illustration of Sherlock Holmes’s life and times. At 1000 pieces, it’s a great way to descreen, destress, and delight, whether alone, with family, or with friends. If you’re looking forward to Valentine’s Day, this would be a great date night activity. The pieces are well-made and make a soft click when you put them in place. Very satisfying. We’re not going to show the complete puzzle, because that would be a spoiler.
The fun doesn’t end just because you’ve completed the puzzle, though. The puzzle image itself is a seek-and-find. The poster that’s included has the puzzle image on one side and a series of images on the other, with a text that describes Sherlock Holmes’s life by way of the places and characters that are in the puzzle image. Use the poster guide to find the 50 images hidden within the puzzle. Don’t think that just because you’ve spent the time building the puzzle that the seek-and-find will be easy. It can be quite challenging!
This is our second Laurence King jigsaw puzzle and we are just as impressed with this one as we were with The World of Agatha Christie. The World of Sherlock Holmes puzzle is recommended for ages 10 and up and there are 1,000 1” pieces. Depending on your puzzling skills, this one could take a few sessions to complete. Take your time with the seek-and-find and, by all means, include your littles in that part of the fun. In my experience, they have eagle eyes and will love trying to find the various characters. Reading the narration to them while you go through the images might inspire them to read some of the Sherlock Holmes stories, too.
