I do not always have high hopes for another movie that is sometimes made because the first one was such a success, but DIsney has an excellent track record in regard to this, just look at Inside Out 2. Disney’s success streak continues with Moana 2, I am happy to report that the movie was beautiful and wonderful and highly entertaining for all ages!
Moana’s struggle in this movie is finding other populated islands as her visions show her that her islands population will not last without finding other pacific islanders. She is accompanied on her journey with a rag tag crew of her fellows, and each has a specific job to do on the boat. In time, they all adapt to working together and for a winning team, or so we hope! Along the way they meet Maui who had been captured by one of the Gods who do not want the humans to unite and flourish and let’s hope things work out! No spoilers today kids.
The singing is as beautiful as ever. The voice acting is also wonderful; I could almost see Auli’i when I heard Moana speak! Female empowerment is once again a strong message in these Moana movies, and we kept cheering on the crew hoping they would be able to save each other, and the future of their fellows. This is a great holiday movie for this Thanksgiving, and well into the rest of the year, perfect for all ages! Having interviewed Auli’i as a teenager before the first Moana over eight years ago brought back some wonderful memories from that press junket, reminding me of the work done to capture the true essence of pacific islander history, and also how mini-Maui came to be!
Walt Disney Animation Studios’ epic animated musical “Moana 2” reunites Moana (voice of Auli‘i Cravalho) and Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson) three years later for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.
In addition to Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson, the voice cast of “Moana 2” includes Hualālai Chung, Rose Matafeo, David Fane, Awhimai Fraser, Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda, Temuera Morrison, Nicole Scherzinger, Rachel House, Gerald Ramsey and Alan Tudyk, who returns as Heihei. Directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand and Dana Ledoux Miller, and produced by Christina Chen and Yvett Merino, “Moana 2” features music by Grammy® winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foa‘i, and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina. Jared Bush and Miller are writing the film, which is executive produced by Jennifer Lee, Bush and Johnson.
