British/Foreign Science Fiction & Supernatural TV Shows – Top New Finds!
Doctor Who is back and on Disney Plus, and the new Doctor is played by Ncuti Gatwa from Netlfix’s Sex Education! He is doing a great job, and this new iteration of Doctor Who, first revitalized in 2005, has Russell Davies back at the helm, he who brought in that 2005 resurgence!
Renegade Nell – (Disney Plus) stars Louisa Harland of Derry Girls fame. She was a bit of a simpleton in Derry Girls, and in this new role, she is a swashbuckling hero! These casting people are brilliant sh she is terrific in the role. This is a supernatural show set in Englanda hundred or so years ago. She has a fairy godfather type figure that helps her in a crisis played by the brilliant Nick Mohammed of Ted Lasso fame.
Lockwood – (Netflix) A series about ghosts upsetting current day British society and only kids can see them!
Dead Boy Detectives – (Netflix) These ghosts help you solve murders and mysteries! I enjoyed it!
Supacell – (Netflix) All Black cast and science fiction! A new twist to the superhero genre and a great watch!
I do not watch animated science fiction, but the live action Star Wars series on Disney Plus are all terrific: The Mandalorian, The Acolyte, Andor, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi!
Some of the British science fiction and supernatural shows are great TV watching, and I have added a few from other international ones!
Invisible City (Netflix) – deep Brazilian fantasy/supernatural, very entertaining and interesting, go see!
The Bastard Son (Netflix) – born a witch, but is he evil like his dad? Very well done!
The Last Days (Prime) – A Spanish movie, apocalyptic and very good.
Blood Red Sky (Netflix) – Vampire movie. Yikes!
The Order (Netflix) – Horror Drama, two seasons!
Vampires (Netflix) – Half human, half vampire, and just a teenager!
Warrior Nuns (Netflix) – Who else to fight demons on Earth!
Fate – The Winx Saga (Netflix) – two seasons, supernatural, interesting!
And just because this Comic Relief video is perfection, it stars David Tennant with Catherine Tate, portraying non-scifi characters. Catherine portrayed Donna Noble for a season plus, the best companion to the doctor that there ever was! Here she plays Lauren, one of her comedic characters from her own series, and this is absolutely brilliant!
The following shows are perfect for binging during your yearend holiday staycation, these are newer additions to my collection, and well worth viewing after you see Doctor Who!
The Misfits (Hulu) – Cheesy production, and still binge-worthy science fiction. And Robert Sheehan from The Umbrella Academy is in this. I highly recommend!
Ultraviolet (Prime Video) – One season, six episodes. Great new ideas on the old vampire theme!
The Irregulars – British supernatural!
Crazyhead (Netflix) – also a comedy, nice twist on the demon genre, binged all six episodes in one night.
A Discovery of Witches – (Sundance TV) eagerly awaiting season three on the Sundance Channel! Nicely done with a different approach to witches, vampires, and demons.
Trickster – Canadian, good supernatural show. Unfortunately, only one season because of internal disputes, not due to low ratings.
The Commons – (Sundance TV) Australian dystopian series, one season, gripping, the future is just a few years away and it isn’t looking good!
Apparitions – (Amazon Prime) is about one Priest versus the growing power of Satan and his minions, the demons.
The Nevers – (HBOMax) – nice supernatural.
His Dark Materials – (HBOMax) Nice science fiction.
Years and Years – (HBOMax) – Dystopian and excellent!
Into the Night – (Netflix) – The world is ending and this time it comes from Europe! Dubbed and has subtitles, I am loving this dystopian one!
Update, foreign Supernatural shows are always worth a binge:
The Boarding School: Las Cumbres – (Amazon Prime) – Spanish, dubbed and with subtitles. Some weird stuff is going on in this boarding school!
Cleverman – (AMC+, Sundance) – Australian supernatural, also some race war and heavy racism intermixed.
Ragnarok (Netflix) – Norwegian Fantasy Drama! Very good, yes, Thor is here!
