I started with Matt Forbeck’s story of how he came to love board games and the hope and joy he got from them. I read (and related to) Donna Gregory’s story of how games helped her make friends as she moved around in her younger years. As a military child, I, too, moved around a lot and used games as a means of bonding with others and to break the boredom of downtime while traveling. Ian Livingstone’s story of basing his career and sharing his knowledge to help develop new games and new games creators was inspiring.
You will get more than you ever imagined from these stories, learning about the people behind the games you love and how and why they fell in love with games and created a life based on games. Each of the essays is short enough that it can be read on a break (or when you need a break) or while your littles are napping. It really is a perfect gift to help other game lovers find inspiration, find like minds, and learn a bit more about why games mean so much to all of us. There is an entire world in each story.
