Have you ever dropped a can of soda, then released a gushing fountain of soda, drenching you and everything around you in soda because you forgot to tap the top before you opened the can? Or do you have an annoying sibling who cheerfully brings you a can of soda, then dissolves in laughter when that fountain catches you, because they shook the can up before they gave it you? Well, Mikikum Toys brings you that same sensation (sort of) with their new Drench game. Shake the can, pop the top and hope it’s not you who gets Drenched!
What’s in the box?
Mukikim Toys’s Drench comes in a can! The game is a Drench soda can that holds everything you need to play the game. Concealed with in the can are the dice and the water canister. The packaging includes a page of assembly and game instructions, but the instructions are also printed on the soda can label, so don’t worry about losing them.
The assembly is somewhat intuitive. Screw off the top of the can (you can see the line where the two parts separate; fill the canister with water (and ONLY water), screw it into the can, add 3 AAA batteries, then screw the top back on. Oh, don’t forget to remove the special d-ice! That’s not a typo! The dice are designed to look like ice cubes. Adorable! You won’t be able to use these dice in another game, though, the numbers on the numbered die are randomly placed, rather than having the opposite sides add up to seven, like regular dice.
How to play Mukikim Toys’s Drench Game
After you’ve assembled the Drench soda can with its full water canister, turn the game on (the on-off switch is under the pull tab), and you’re ready to play. SPOILER ALERT! The Drench soda can has sound effects!
Each player throws the numbered die to decide who goes first. On each player’s turn, they roll the dice to determine their actions. One of the dice has letters: K, S, and P. If you roll a K, you keep the Drench can; if you roll an S, you skip your turn and pass the Drench can to the player on your left; and if you roll a P, you get to pick a player to take your turn.
The numbered die tells you how many times the player holding the Drench can must shake the can before opening it. That’s you, if you rolled a K or the player you handed the can to, if you rolled a P. After shaking the Drench can, move it to about 6” from your chin, then pull the tab. Do this gently, though, because overpulling will damage the mechanism. If nothing happens, the player passes the Drench can to the player on their left. If the player gets sprayed, though, they are out of the round.
How to Win Mukikim Toys’s Drench Game
Play continues until there is just one player left who is dry and they get a point. Continue playing rounds until someone gets three points. Note – if a player tries to evade the spray, they lose a point and are out of the round!
Don’t worry! The Drench soda can does not spray like a real soda can. There’s a steady stream of water (mist, really) that lasts for a few seconds. If you play as instructed, you won’t even have to worry about getting the play area wet. If your littles are rambunctious or take delight in making messes, play outside! As mentioned above, the mechanism is a bit delicate, so make sure your littles understand that they shouldn’t overpull the tab. This game is silly and fun for all ages. If you have littles who are under 8 who want in on the fun, it’s probably fine for them to play with adult supervision (including pulling the tab with them so they don’t overpull).
Mukikim Toys’s Drench is for players 8 and up and any number of players can play at any time. I offer two caveats. First, the game is relatively simple to assemble, but you do need 3 AAA batteries and a mini Phillips-head screwdriver to install them in the Drench soda can. Second, it’s probably best to remove the batteries and empty the water canister each time you play, so it’s a bit fiddly, but the littles will love it, so it’s worth the extra effort.
TOP TIP: Wait about 10 minutes after assembling the Drench soda can for optimal spray!
