Vampire Academy on Peacock TV!
I’m loving season one of Vampire Academy on Peacock. The season is not over, and I can barely wait each week for new episodes!
I have been a fan of the genre since I watched Dark Shadows in the late 60’s. And funny enough, I found Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and Legacies and binged them through the pandemic. And guess who brought those three series to life? Julie Plec, who is now responsible for giving us Vampire Academy! Only those in the know, know she is the genius behind so many fantastic supernatural series.
It was fantastic to sit and listen to her talk! The series is based on the book series, which had also been made into a movie. This is much better as a streaming tv series, there is a lot to go through. Julie explained that they used a lot of seasons one and some of season six in this first television series, what a great idea to keep the book fans interested!
The story revolves around Rose Hathaway who is a guardian-in-training Dhampir, and Lissa Dragomir, who is a Moroi princess, and follows their life and adventures at the St Vladimir’s Academy, a boarding school, with a governmental type of center right around the corner. The Moroi are pure bred vampires, who are also capable of different types of magic. Also, the ruling class. The Dhampir are their protectors, created through the mating of a vampire and a human. They all need protecting from the Strigoi, Strigoi are bloodthirsty vampires that come into existence by draining their victim of enough blood to kill them (or by killing a Moroi, in turn they become Strigoi). They are the strongest of the three.
We have yet to see much of the human world, and currently the Strigoi are becoming a bigger issue, anything more is a spoiler! There is also political intrigue in the vampire universe, like everywhere else, who will be the new ruler, why is there such a separation between royal and nn-royal Miroi, and why are the Dhampir not treated better, after all, they are the protectors!
Suffice it to say that this is a new and interesting twist on a familiar mythology, and I am all in for the storytelling! There was a spoiler in the interview, who will next become a Strigoi, and without reading the books I surmised a possible solution, so we all have to see what happens next!
If you do not have Peacock TV, and want to see great programing, sign up now!
There are many terrific folks involved with this series, and I was thrilled to get a selfie with the Queen of the Vampires herself, Julie Plec! Yes, sometimes I cannot help but be a huge fanboy
Super excited for this!!!
