It most certainly is not, this show is about the rich folks and how they lived as Manhattan Island was being developed, it is very interesting for me as a New Yorker on a historical level. I also saw the series on HBO and thought the first episode was not very good, but I was told to keep watching, and by the second episode, I was binging!
