Platinum American Express Card For Free!

My husband has a Platinum American Express card, and we pay a lot of money for that privilege, especially with me as an add-on for a second card. And the price is going up from $550 to $650. My second card costs us $175. Seems like a lot, doesn’t it? It is unless you are a savvy cardholder like myself. We made a profict on the card last year, let me tell you how.

The Platinum Amex has automatic benefits, and as I found out during the pandemic, extra benefits. Here are the automatic benefits that we used last year:

-$200 airline credit for incidentals. Baggage, etc., and also includes lounge access if you want to bring a guest in to the Delta lounge, which is free for Platinum card holders, when flying Delta.
-$100 per Platinum card. TSA credit every five years. Haven’t gotten your TSA approval yet? Amex will pay for it! We renewed my spouse and our son last year, and since we used both of our cards, we received $200 back to pay for both fees. Good once every five years.
-$100 Saks Fifth Avenue annual credit, earned in $50 biannual increments. Every six months I get $50 credit for charges at Saks Fifth Avenue, in store or on-line (does not work for their related outlet store, Off Saks).
-$200 Uber credit. We get $15 a month free Uber credit, and a bonus in December. Not riding during the quarantine. The credit is also attached to your Uber Eats account! I always combine that with an Uber Eats coupon!
$700 total in monetary value, plus a Priority Pass airline lounge card for you and 2 guests, just request the card when you become a member.

Here is a list of extra benefits available right now:
– $179 to pay for your Clear membership. Zoom through the airport. TSA has gotten very busy; this is the quickest way through! I had used a trial membership, Clear asked me to renew at a special rate of $119, and my spouse was an extra $60. We both have Clear for free!
– $200 Travel Credit – available in 2022. We used it in 2021 to pay for both of us to go to Orlando one way.
– $168 ($14/month) Walmart Plus credit monthly: free deliveries for the year. Includes reimbursement for the tax on the $12.99 charge.
– $240 Get up to $20 in statement credits each month when you use your Platinum Card® for eligible purchases at your choice of one or more of the following: Peacock, Audible, SiriusXM, and The New York Times.
$787 total additional monetary value of basic benefits!

$1487 in 2022 benefits for two cards that cost $825. And, that membership fee may also be a business tax deduction!

Please note, there are even more benefits, check it out for yourself, these are just the ones I use. There is a $300 credit for an Equinox membership (and then you are eligible for another $300 off of a Soul Cycle), and cell phone protection, etc. Also, upgrade benefits at Marriott and Hilton hotel chains!

Here were my bonus offers in the first half of 2021 when I realized what was available. There are a host of extra benefits currently, none that I am using. Offers are updated regularly, so you know I keep checking back.

2021 Platinum Offers  that expired June 30, 2021 – you had to have these added to your card in order for them to be active on your account, sometimes that can only be attached to the primary card holder’s number:
-$100 Best Buy – credited, for charging $50, 2 separate times before June 30. Mail order only
-$100 Home Depot – credited, for charging $50, 2 separate times before June 30. Mail order or in-store pick-up.
-$100 Instacart – $50 credit for charging $250 in a billing cycle. I am a Costco member and have delivery through Instacart almost every week, so this s a great bonus!
-$180 Paypal – Connect your Amex card to your paypal account and choose the Amex option when you are paying with paypal. I received up to $30 a month.
-$100 Goldbelly credit – You get $50 for spending $100.
-$150 Home Chef credit. In increments of $50/order. I just signed up and am getting $20 off of my first 4 deliveries. And then I will get $50 back for the first three deliveries. I will cancel after the third delivery.

As the pandemic winds down, the extra benefits may fade away. But there will always be some, and added to the basic benefits rewards, the card is free!

There are additional benefits and offers, these are just the ones I use. I am the secondary on my husband’s card, and my card is not eligible for all of these items, so I just use his! My extra card is not inexpensive, but since I travel with Delta, I get free lounge access when traveling and always manage to grab snacks and beverages in those lounges for the plane ride! I was also eligible for the $100 TSA credit, both the kid and the hubby were due to renew so we got $200 in credits to pay for both, $100 from each card. Again, that is good once every five year, as TSA has to be renewed in that time period as well.

I am also eligible for my own Priority pass which adds access to other lounges around the country and around the world, for when I travel solo. Did I mention our teenager has a card as well? His Platinum is free, and if we travel together, he gets into Delta lounges without us having to pay the $29 fee, and he also gets his own Priority Pass! His card is set to the maximum credit line of $200. But don’t tell him!

Ask me for my code!  We both get rewarded if you’re approved, plus you can get up to 60,000 bonus miles (you usually have to spend $3000-$5000 in the first three months for the bonus miles, if that means paying a fee to charge my rent, it is still worth it) which is also like getting money!
