Ghostbusters: Afterlife Opens November 19th!
My generation grew up on the Ghostbuster movies, and they were terrific! Now, we have a new generation of ghostbusters, ow do you think they will do?
From director Jason Reitman and producer Ivan Reitman, comes the next chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe. In Ghostbusters: Afterlife, when a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind. The film is written by Gil Kenan & Jason Reitman.
Firstly, this is a vastly different story then the original movies. Yes, some of the demons/ghosts are similar, but this is about the end of the world, and is handled from a completely different angle. It is updated, and introduces us to a younger set of ghostbusters as they find their way.
McKenna Grace is the standout in this movie. I first discovered her in the Chris Evans movie, Gifted, in which she played a child genius. Almost a similar role to this movie where she is a 12 year old scientist (well, not quite, but she thinks she is. She is just really smart!). She was the lead in this movie, and her sidekick, played by Logan Kim, was the perfect foil for Mckenna’s character! Everyone else did a great job as well, what movie can go wrong with Paul Rudd in the cast!
For those of us in the crowd who grew up on the original movies, there is a great piece of nostalgia when the original Ghostbusters arrive to help. Same actors, sans one, and they played their same characters, with the same comic nuances as several decades ago. It was wonderful!
I enjoyed this movie and recommend it whole heartedly. It was well done, the story was sufficiently updated, and the cast was terrific!
