I still find British shows superior to American shows overall. I am a huge science fiction fan sine the tween years, and love supernatural shows as well since I was raised on the original Dark Shadows. I love when a show adds something interesting to the vampire/werewofl/etc. mythology!
I would love for you to add your favorites, this list is a work in progress. I will constantly be updating as I check out more and more recommendations, but I will not add your suggestion if I do not like the show! This is my blog!
My Top:
Doctor Who (HBOMax), the most recent reincarnation started back up in 2005. Five actors have since played the role. One of the best written science fiction TV show ever.
Years And Years – on HBOMax for Americans, this dystopian look at Britain in the next 10 years is horrifying. Some big names in this, chilling and excellent science fiction. Excellent.
Being Human was copied for the American audience and was not anywhere near as well done as the original British version with a ghost, werewolf, and vampire living together trying to make a family and save the world!
Primeval, the original British version.
Torchwood (HBOMax) is a Doctor Who spin-off, and another favorite of mine!
Wolfblood is an enjoyable werewolf series from Britain.
The Aliens – a modern tale of societal racism, this one is a British version with aliens.
Sarah Jane Adventures (HBOMax) is more for teens, another Doctor Who spin-off.
Humans – the AI have become sentient, and the humans are worried! I loved this show, and it is where I first saw the beautiful Gemma Chan!
Survivors (2008) version) – another plague hits the planet! This is very well done.
Orphan Black (Canadian? British?) I took a long time to try this show, I was nervous that it was too complicated. Instead, I binged this and fell in love with the main actress who showed an incredible acting range.
Hex. Great supernatural show! And the lesbian ghost was in the original Kinky Boots movie playing the shoe manufacturer’s wife!
The Fades (HBOMax) – spirits of the dead are all around, if you can see them!
Ghosts (HBOMax) is about a haunted castle, but while it has some interesting supernatural angles, it is more of a comedy.
Black Mirror is almost like an updated Twilight Zone series, and it is excellent!
Krypton – this series was on the SYFY network in the US and was fairly well done as a prequel, the story is about Superman’s grandpa as a young man.
Residue – Spirits abound!
In The Flesh – can zombies be cured?
ALSO, SOME FOREIGN SHOWS:
Immortals – a Turkish supernatural show which I enjoyed!
Diablero – from Mexico, if you like Demonology.
The Almighty Johnsons – New Zealand show, Humans as Norse Gods, very well done.
Ragnarok – Norwegian show, the Gods are among us, very well done! Season Two in the works. Similar premise to The Almighty Johnsons, but very different story, both were very creatively done!
Katla – Icelandic science fiction, slow moving, and interesting.
The Blackout – a Russian movie, very good science fiction.
Warrior Nun – nice supernatural show, in English, on Netflix, renewed for season two!
Dystopian Shows:
The 3% – from Brazil
The Barrier – from Spain
I am always looking for recommendations, and will update this list as I find new shows! Wikipedia has a supernatural series list here!
Please feel free to send your suggestions in the comments!
I am very opinionated and do not like everything. I am also only interested in shows from 2000 and forward, for the most part.
UPDATES:
The Misfits (HULU) – Mysterious storm brings mysterious powers. Well done show, with a lot of humor. The first two seasons were my favorites. Great binge!
Ultraviolet – One season, six episodes, Prime Video. Great new ideas on the old vampire theme!
The Irregulars – British supernatural!
Crazyhead (Netflix) – also a comedy, nice twist on the demon genre, binged all six episodes in one night.
A Discovery of Witches – (Sundance TV) eagerly awaiting season three on the Sundance Channel! Nicely done with a different approach to witches, vampires, and demons.
Trickster – Canadian, good supernatural show. Unfortunately, only one season because of internal disputes, not due to low ratings.
Thrillers and Dramas, because I do not have enough for a full post, and this is not my favorite genre, but these are worth the binge:
Lupin. Two seasons on Netflix. Fantastic
Pine Gap – Australian spy like drama. Very enjoyable.
Doctor Foster – excellent drama!
No Offence – Police drama, I was hooked within minutes for all three seasons!

Have you tried Fate? It’s on Netflix. I love Ghosts! I haven’t been able to watch the second season yet.
On the dystopian front, have you watched Hunted? It’s a British reality show about people who become fugitives and have to steer clear of hunters who have access to all of the surveillance technology of the British government.

Have you ever watched a show called The Leftovers? It was on either HBO or Showtime. It stars that hot guy Jennifer Aniston used to go with…Justin Thoreau I think. It’s sort post apocalyptic and unusual.

If you’ve never seen “The Untamed” with Xiao Zhan and Wang Yi Bo I highly recommend it! I didn’t think I’d like it since I read the book it was based on first (shows usually don’t live up to the books for me) but I was wrong. I binged all 50 episodes so quickly it was ridiculous! The only other shows I’ve ever binged that fast were Doctor Who and Torchwood! LOL! I’m pretty sure it’s available on both Netflix and YouTube.
