It was an honor to host a preview of the new movie, The Call of the Wild. The movie is great entertainment, I recommend it for everyone when it opens this February 21!
Twentieth Century Studios’ “The Call of the Wild,” adapted from the novel by Jack London, vividly brings to the screen the story of Buck, a big-hearted dog whose blissful domestic life is turned upside down when he is suddenly uprooted from his California home and transplanted to the exotic wilds of the Canadian Yukon during the Gold Rush of the 1890s. As the newest rookie on a mail delivery dog sled team–and later its leader–Buck experiences the adventure of a lifetime, ultimately finding his true place in the world and becoming his own master. As a live-action/animation hybrid, “The Call of the Wild” employs visual effects and animation technology to bring the animals in the film to life.
What a great adventure! The life and times of Buck the dog. Buck is human like in his understanding of people, and the way he learns to evolve in the world. From a spoiled house dog, to an Alaskan sled dog delivering the mail, to a wild life in the Yukon Territory. Buck’s personality is strong and his leadership skills are show to be strong. He embraces his existence with gusto and the journey of his life is great fun to watch as we follow along. His journey is not easy, but we get to watch his personal growth in an entertaining and poignant way. We laughed throughout, and got emotional at times. The movie is great fun for kids of all ages, this is the perfect family movie.
And I hosted this preview! We held a trivia contest to start of the night, and I want to share some of the fast facts I learned:
-Buck is a cross between a St. Bernard and a Scotch Sheppard
-Most of the movie takes place in the Yukon Territory, not Alaska.
-The digital scan of Buck is from an actual dog, the pet of director Chris Sander’s wife, Jessica Steele-Sanders.
-The Call of the Wild is not based on a true story! But it is a great tale!
“The Call of the Wild” is directed by Chris Sanders and stars Harrison Ford, Omar Sy, Dan Stevens, Karen Gillan, Bradley Whitford, Cara Gee, Michael Horse, Jean Louisa Kelly, Colin Woodell, and Adam Fergus.
As a live-action/animation hybrid, THE CALL OF THE WILD employs cutting edge visual effects and animation technology in order to render the animals in the film as fully photorealistic–and emotionally authentic–characters.

I remember reading Call of The Wild as a kid. It was one of my favorite books, and Jack London was one of my favorite authors. I’m hesitant to see the movie because I don’t typically enjoy this type of animation, but I do love Harrison Ford.

I did not like what I saw in the previews re the CGI of the dog, but when I got into the movie, I saw that it was necessary for the whole story line of a self aware type dog.
