Emergence is the best new drama on television this season. The acting and writing are excellent, and the story line keeps me coming back for more:
A police chief takes in a young child she finds near the site of a mysterious accident and the investigation draws her into a conspiracy larger than she ever imagined.
Piper is the young child and we are waiting to see what exactly she is, so far she has telekinetic abilities that she cannot control. This seems similar to some of 11’s abilities in “Stranger Things.” I cannot wait to see where this leads to, is Piper an alien or was she bred to have these abilities; the mystery keeps me returning for more!
There are secret agents trying to cover up the mysterious events surrounding the arrival of this young girl, and so far Sheriff Jo Evans (brilliantly played by Allison Tolman) has caught on and is staying one step ahead. It was a thrill to chat with the cast at NY’s ComicCon this past week!
I am a big fan boy, so I fawned over Allison, she is the main character and does a fantastic job playing the town’s Sheriff:
And she was seated with Alexa Swinton who plays Piper:
Both shared how the cast had become like a family. We tried to get some spoilers, but our cajoling did not work!
Donald Faison plays Sheriff Jo’s ex-husband:
That’s right, he took our selfie! He could not have been friendlier. We did discuss the heat that was starting to be felt in the second episode, with him and his ex. He said that had become apparent to the writers, so it was probably going to affect the direction these two might take, that tension will be fun to watch as it unfolds! For now, Alex Evans is sticking close to the family to help protect his child with Jo, Mia, played by Ashley Aufderheide.
Ashley and Alexa were like sisters in the press room, you could see their chemistry in real life. Ashley’s character wanted a sibling, and she unexpectedly received on when Piper appeared, Ashley/Mia has the big sister role all locked up!
Clancy Brown plays Jo’s dad, and Mia’s grandad, Ed Sawyer.
His role on the show is also that of protector, and we may find out that his cancer is because of his work on 9/11. Did you know he has voiced Mr. Krabs on the SpongeBob show for the last 20 years, among dozens of other noteworthy roles!
Robert Bailey Jr. plays Chris Minetto, Sheriff’s Jo’s deputy:
Lastly, Owain Yeoman plays investigative journalist Benny Gallagher:
Benny wants to help Jo find out the truth, so he has become an ally, a role that one does not always expect from a journalist, they are usually out to get a story, no matter what the cost.
I was hooked on Emergence from the first episode, and you will be as well, so tune in, set the DVR/TIVO, and watch this hot new show because more is being revealed each week.
This Tuesday Terry O’Quinn (from Lost) guest stars!
