My friend Shari leveraged the power of her original food blog, My Judy the Foodie, to help raise awareness and money for breast cancer research! She has been running the amazing Bake It Happen fundraiser to honor her mom, who lost the fight against breast cancer. Shari and her group have gone national and raise money for breast cancer research, and awareness to both honor her mom, and to help find a cure so other folks do not lose loved ones!! I am honored to participate every year, PLEASE READ HOW YOU CAN HELP, just by baking!
Every year I share my own story: I participate in the Bake It Happen campaign (this is my fifth year in a row) to support this great cause, and to support my family members who have had breast cancer. My husband’s cousin found out she had breast cancer soon after she gave birth to her second child. Since it was only a few weeks after she gave birth, her doctor told her that the lump she started to feel, was related to her breasts being filled with milk. Luckily she went for a second opinion, because the first doctor was WRONG. My cousin had breast cancer and went for a double mastectomy and has been cancer free for 10 years now.
My husband’s aunt is also a breast cancer survivor. We will never forget the day of her operation, it was during the blackout of Summer, 2003. I remember because we were stuck in our house with our newborn son, while they were a few blocks away at Cabrini Hospital. Thank-Gd her operation was a success.
I am honored to help promote Bake-It-Happen because I support the women in my family who have had breast cancer, and all women!

How does this work you ask? It’s simple:
This October, all you do is bake the featured recipe(s) and share them with the people in your life and on social media. Every time a photo is shared with #bakeithappen (or emailed to ubakeithappen@gmail.com), they’ll donate $5 per picture to their partner The Cancer Couch Foundation. 100% of this money will in turn get DOUBLED and be used to fund Metastatic breast cancer (MBC) research.
-It’s important to note that there is NO CURE for MBC! The only way to put an end to breast cancer is to fund research to help find a CURE for MBC. 100% of people diagnosed with MBC will die.
If you don’t bake and still want to help, you can DONATE $$$ directly to The Cancer Couch Foundation through the website www.bakeithappen.net/donate.
People can also BAKE and DONATE (as baking only yields a $5 donation)

2019 campaign partner:
THE CANCER COUCH FOUNDATION
The Cancer Couch Foundation, founded by Dr. Rebecca Timlin-Scalera, is volunteer run and privately funded. 100% of the money raised by TCCF goes to Metastatic Breast Cancer Research and it is matched!
To date Rebecca, the founder, has helped raised over $2M in just 2 years — and all of this has been done while Rebecca herself has gone through 11 surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation and ongoing experimental trial medications for her own metastatic breast cancer battle.
We support The Cancer Couch Foundation in their allied mission to accelerate treatment, and someday find a cure, for metastatic breast cancer. Visit https://thecancercouch.com/
