Gloria (Gina Rodriguez) finds a power she never knew she had when she is drawn into a dangerous world of cross-border crime. Surviving will require all of her cunning, inventiveness, and strength.
Gina is fabulous as a mellow, nice, quiet make-up artist who gets caught up in a drug/turf war in Tijuana, Mexico. If I didn’t know better I would say everything our current Prsident says is true about the border, but let me remind you, this is a movie!
She drives down to Tijuana from her home in Los Angeles to help her best friend, Suzu, prepare for the Miss Baja California pageant. They party with the pageant personnel at a hot Tijuana club, and that is when all things go wrong. Gina and her friend are separated, and the rest of the movie is Gina’s journey to find her friend, and she becomes quite a woman along the way! I could see this as a recurring DEA agent role for Gina! Miss Rodriguez was terrific, I thoroughly enjoyed her in this movie, she has shown her range extends to more than just her work in Jane the Virgin (one of my favorite shows)!
Miss Bala opens Friday, February 1! Buy tickets now at Fandango.com!
