I previewed the Aquaman movie at a fan event in NYC on the biggest IMAX screen and it was an awesome experience!
From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes “Aquaman,” the origin story of half-surface dweller, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry that takes him on the journey of his lifetime— one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be…a king.
The action-packed adventure spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, and stars Jason Momoa in the title role. The film also stars Amber Heard as Mera, a fierce warrior and Aquaman’s ally throughout his journey; Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe (“The Florida Project”) as Vulko, council to the Atlantean throne; Patrick Wilson as Orm, the present King of Atlantis; Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, King of the Atlantean tribe Xebel; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as the revenge-seeking Black Manta; and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman (“The Hours”) as Arthur’s mom, Atlanna. Also featured are Ludi Lin as Captain Murk, an Atlantean Commando, and Temuera Morrison as Arthur’s dad, Tom Curry.
The movie is action packed. The effects are terrific. I highly recommend this movie, the visuals of Atlantis are gorgeous! We get to see the Atlantis of the past as destroyed relics from when the land sank into the ocean, and then we get to see the various “tribes” of Atlanteans as they are imagined to have evolved since the initial destruction. Atlantis was destroyed because its’s peoples could not handle the full power of the technology there were creating. Now that technological advancement shows the Atlanteans to be far superior to us land dwellers in all that they have created, including their new, very beautiful, underwater homes.
Nicole Kidman is beautiful as she washes up on the shore while running away from an arranged marriage. I remember watching that first trailer a few months ago, when her son realizes his power over sea creatures, and it gave me goosebumps. Arthur’s subsequent training through his teenage years, helps to set the ground work for his future fighting ability, which he will sorely need as he is destined to be the link between land dwellers and the Atlanteans.
I was hooked from start to finish! Jason Momoa is terrific as the reluctant leader, and it was great to have him introduce the Aquaman movie!
The film is being released in 3D and 2D and IMAX, and will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures. “Aquaman” is rated PG-13 for sequences of sci-fi violence and action, and for some language. OPENS DECEMBER 21!
