Six of us went out to brunch at Bar Bacon in Union Square this holiday weekend. For the sake of disclosure, Linda of @NYCSingleMom and I had attended their opening party and already knew what treats were in store for us. The premise is of course that this is a restaurant/bar featuring bacon in everything. Is it a gimmick? Or, is it the most brilliant idea for a restaurant ever! After two visits, I am going with the latter explanation. All choices in this establishment are delicious! from the bacon appetizers, to the bacon drinks, to the bacon dessert!
The above Bar Bacon appetizers were each amazing. My favorite is the bacon bites. I describe them as bacon cutlets. We had Brussel sprouts with large, delicious pieces of bacon, both of which are cooked to tender perfection. The chicken wings are tasty, and the bacon sampler was perfect.
Then came the main course. I am going to start with my son’s girlfriend’s dish, the French toast. How basic! Wrong. Besides the fact that the bacon crumbled right into the maple butter, the French toast itself took us all by surprise. Yes, the other five of us tasted Kat’s French toast and it is her fault. She described it as crispy on the outside and a fluffy cloud on the inside. I showed the table the goosebumps that formed on my forearm from the absolutely delicious flavors that were entering my mouth!
I had the smoked St. Louis ribs and they were perfectly cooked and deliciously tender.
Peter (and Linda) had the chicken biscuit sandwich: a buttermilk biscuit, southern fried chicken thigh, black pepper sausage gravy, and bacon chips. They both raved about the sandwich which is beautiful, like a work of art!
Paul went basic with a burger, beautiful in its simplicity, delicious to the taste:
And last, but not least, Alex had the mac and cheese and bacon. I might take home a quart of that the next time!
This is my number one recommendation for people that live in or are visiting NYC. We dined at the Union Square location, and there is also an outpost in Hell’s Kitchen for those in the Times Square area. Six of us all agreed that everything we ordered was perfect. If you are traveling to NYC, I suggest you add this spot to your dining lists. Check out their sample menus here!
This is a fun bar/restaurant with many more interesting items. For those who drink, there are many bacon infused drinks that you will want to imbibe! For more information on both Bar Bacon’s, check out their website and trust daddy Mitch, this is a fantastic NY restaurant choice!
Did I mention on our last visit we had bacon ice cream:
They also make bacon cannoli’s. The cannoli shell is bacon. Wow.
I could not thank the owner, Chef Peter, enough.
Disclosure: Our meal was comped for the purpose of this review. All opinions are 100% honest and our own.

So sad we’re no where near this restaurant. So many good things to eat, the french toast looks amazing. I definitely want to try making maple butter with bacon at home now.
