My friend Shari, of food blog, My Judy the Foodie fame, works tirelessly to help raise awareness and money for breast cancer research! Her blog honors her mother’s recipes, and this fundraiser honors her mom’s own, unsuccessful fight against breast cancer. I am honored to participate every year, and have put donation links all over this post, just click on any picture!
I participate in the Bake It Happen campaign (this is my fourth year in a row) to support Shari, to support this great cause, and to support my family members who have had breast cancer. My husband’s cousin found out she had breast cancer soon after she gave birth to her second child. Since it was only a few weeks after she gave birth, original thought was that the lump was related to her breasts being filled with milk. Luckily she went for a second opinion, because the first doctor was WRONG. My cousin had breast cancer and went for a double mastectomy and has been cancer free for eight years now. My husband’s aunt is also a breast cancer survivor. We will never forget the day of her operation, it was during the blackout of Summer, 2003. I remember because we were stuck in the house with our newborn son. Thank-Gd her operation was a success. I am honored to help promote Bake-It-Happen because I support the women in my family who have had breast cancer, and I support all women!
How does this work you ask? It’s simple:
This October, all you do is bake the featured recipe(s) and share them with the people in your life and on social media. Every time a photo is shared with #bakeithappen (or emailed to ubakeithappen@gmail.com, they’ll donate $5 per pictures to their partner The Cancer Couch Foundation. 100% of this money will in turn get DOUBLED and be used to fund Metastatic breast cancer (MBC) research.
-It’s important to note that there is NO CURE for MBC! The only way to put an end to breast cancer is to fund research to help find a CURE for MBC. 100% of people diagnosed with MBC will die.
If you don’t bake and still want to help, you can DONATE $$$ directly to The Cancer Couch Foundation through the website www.bakeithappen.net/donate.
People can also BAKE and DONATE (as baking only yields a $5 donation)

THE CANCER COUCH FOUNDATION– The Cancer Couch Foundation (TCFF) is run by fellow Ford Warriors in Pink Model of Courage- Rebecca Timlin-Scalerra. Rebecca is a true warrior— having been misdiagnosed as a Stage 4 breast cancer patient, only to be rediagnosed as a Stage 3 patient, Rebecca (a brilliant neuropsychologist) quite her private practice to form TCCF which is dedicated to raising as much money as possible for research exclusively on metastatic breast cancer . In just 6 months, Rebecca has raised over $600,000 and has formed unique alliances with Memorial Sloan-Kettering and the Dana Farber Institute which will match $ for $ all of the monies she raises. We can’t wait to work with her to make sure that 100% of all monies raised goes to this cause.
