My name is Mitch and I live in New York City:
-I lived through 9/11 as a resident where we could see the billowing smoke from downtown for several days after the event.
-The Summer of 2003, after our son was born, was when the great blackout of 2003 occurred. Part of America’s grid went down.
-More recently we lived through Hurricane Sandy. We were out of power for five days.
When these events occur I need to be prepared to get my family to safety, if leaving our home becomes necessary. Now that I have the Vles GO-bag, I am prepared.
I have always thought about being prepared for emergencies, my friends all know I love having a lot of supplies at home for emergencies. After 9/11 I also started to think in terms of emergency preparedness bags. In fact, I have written about them on the blog and have one that was sent to me by a local agency. It contains very few things, so over time I started shopping like a survivalist, and created my own backpack that I could grab if we needed to evacuate. Americans do not usually think in those terms, but it is a changing world, and living through the above three life changing situations makes one rethink their safety, especially when you are a parent!
Then I was contacted by the folks at VLES. They congratulated me for being prepared. And they mentioned that had created their own “go bag.” It is specifically built for urban and suburban dwellers, is tastefully designed, and is seriously ready. Their goal is to make getting prepared as convenient as possible for today’s busy life – they want to remove as many barriers as possible to getting prepared. That translates to, you need a bag full of survival items, that you can “just grab.” There may not be time to pack anything, unfortunately we have just seen these types of situations happen in Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico. Everyone needs to be prepared, and this is the bag you need.
The Vles GO-bag is watertight and convertible to wear, wheel, or stow away–whatever the circumstance calls for. We stocked it with emergency supplies that meet and exceed any emergency packing list put out by FEMA or the Red Cross; and built in plenty of storage for personal items such as medication, diapers, baby food, eyeglasses, clothes, etc. Finally, each bag comes armed with the ‘Readiness Playbook,’ a step-by-step guide to emergency response planning. We urge you to download a copy here.
I love this bag, it makes me feel safer. Again, this type of preparedness has been in the back of my mind for over a decade, and I have taken steps to be prepared, and this bag covers all my needs.
First, the bag: The Vles GO-bag is water resistant with multiple layers of waterproof material. The shell and the interior modules are made of 15000mm waterproof material. The supplies provided come in durable plastic pockets that fit neatly inside the modules. There is also a plastic document envelope for the RFID pocket of the convertible messenger bag, remember to bring your passport! There’s a high likelihood the emergency situation you encounter will involve water, as we know from the past few months in the US. The top module converts to a messenger bag. In case you need to travel light, or you just need to take a few things to the bathroom, this convertible module has got you covered. The waist strap of the main bag disconnects and becomes the shoulder strap of the messenger bag. This is one fabulous design!
Second, what’s inside the bag: The full list is on their website. Read through the list and thin about what they list, have you remembered to buy a transistor radio for your house? When the power went out, my neighbor Teresa sat with us with her radio. We have all become so accustomed to the modern conveniences that we rarely thing about what happens when the lights go out, which we now know is a distinct possibility! This kit has a charger, a flashlight, and even a siren. The thermal scarf included is good for putting on the wet ground, keeping you warm, a signal reflector, and even a rain protector. There are a bunch of smaller items, many of which I carry around now when I go out with my son, bandages, alcohol wipes, first aid ointment. I love being prepared for as many contingencies as possible! This is similar to how I pack when I travel with my family. I will be honest with you and admit that I pack like I am going to a third world country that has no supplies. As a parent I feel that I can not over-prepare! That’s why I love this bag!
Third, an emergency plan, do you have one? Just click on the website and they will email you a detailed plan for you to use to protect your family. We have been prepared for years, we have a place to meet in case of emergency, something I never had to worry about when I was growing up, but is now something that our government has told us to think about, it is a changing world.
I hope you will make sure you are prepared and think about investing in this awesome “GO-bag,” to keep you and your family feeling safe, and prepared for an emergency!
Our way of life has changed and we need to be prepared. All the prep work has been done for you with this bag, every home should have one for the next emergency, or rather every home should have one and hopefully never need to use it!
Disclosure: I received this bag for review. All opinions are 100% honest and our own.
I love the bag is water resistant. We too need to be prepared.

Here in Louisiana, I have been through many hurricanes. More than Id like that were serious and some devastating to our state. This would be great to have because something is always forgotten or you are not able to get out for some reason or another.
