My family previewed this movie last week and absolutely loved it. We laughed all the way through. And yes, that is what I want from a comedy!
In the R-rated comedy Rough Night, five friends from college – played by Scarlett Johansson, Kate McKinnon, Jillian Bell, Ilana Glazer, and Zoë Kravitz – reunite when they rent a beach house in Miami for a wild bachelorette weekend that goes completely off the rails. Just when all hope is lost, they realize there’s more to the story than they could’ve ever imagined.
These ladies work wonderfully well together. Our heroine, played by Scarlett Johansson, is a goody two shoes politician who will probably lose her upcoming election because she is so squeaky clean. And so is her fiancé played by Paul Downs.
Jillian Bell plays Scarlett’s over eager college roommate who seems to live for her friendship with Johansson. She has no just planned a wedding shower weekend getaway for them and their other college buddies, she has micromanaged every minute of it, down to the last second. I had a friend like that, it can be excruciatingly annoying!
Kate McKinnon plays the odd woman out in the group, she was Scarlett’s roommate on her trip abroad in Australia. Disclosure: we think Kate is one of the funniest women alive. So imagine her doing an Australian accent with an attitude of surprise at most things American.
Zoe and Ilana round out the group. They had been lovers in college, but in recent years Zoe had married a man, and Ilana was a lesbian always getting in trouble for her political activism.
The ladies meet in Miami for a wild and crazy bachelorette party, and at the last minute decide to add some cocaine to their evening. From there it is only natural that one would go on Craig’s list to hire a male stripper, right?
You already know from the promo’s that the chubby girl takes a run at the stripper’s lap and ends up knocking him over. He accidentally hits his head and bleeds to death. That was a dark moment in the comedy, but a great set-up for what is about to transpire over the evening!
Ty Burrell and Demi Moore play the horny couple next door who are in an open relationship looking to add on one more. See the movie to see why this was absolutely brilliant casting.
We all three loved the movie, we laughed hysterically throughout and would happily see it again. This is one of those movies that I will purchase when available, to see on my tablet, over and over again. I love comedies, and this one is hot! The five ladies work great together!

Go see the movie, it opens June 16th! It is rated “R,” so be careful when thinking about bringing the teenagers. There were some racy moments for my son, but he is a NYC kid who sees it all just walking down the streets of NY!
