We saw this movie as a family and I knew it was one of those movies that I would need to see again, and again. We all loved it and my son was singing “You’re Welcome” the whole way home! I am thrilled that I was sent this combo pack to review for you!
Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast South Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped – and no one today knows why. From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes “Moana,” a sweeping, CG-animated adventure about a spirited teenager who sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and fulfill her ancestors’ unfinished quest. During her journey, Moana (voice of Auli’i Cravalho) meets the once-mighty demi-god Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), and together, they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous fiery creatures and impossible odds.
The most fascinating part of this animated movie is that it is based on truth! The Wayfinders did actually stop traveling for a thousand years and no one knows why. Moana is a created character made to explain how wayriding started up again, but the basic story is historical fact. And the mythology of Maui is one that almost all Pacific Island cultures share in one form or another. The navigational skills of the Pacific Islanders was truly remarkable, and they did not have access to any of our modern nautical instruments!
I love owning movies because there are so many extras, I always want more information after I see a movie! Moana does not disappoint:
