1057762Don’t you enjoy seeing what new records are set each year? I love reading the stories throughout the year of folks trying to get into the latest editions of the Guinness Book of World Records, here are a few of the newest highlights:

Tallest dog living (female): Meet Lizzy, the Great Dane from Florida, who measures a HUGE 96.41 cm (37.96 in) tall! Lizzy is so tall, she has to eat her food from a bowl that sits on a chair as she cannot reach the floor, and her water bowl has to stay in the garage because she makes such a mess! Her owner, Greg, says Lizzy is a gentle giant and very sociable – he puts this down to her spending much of her life surrounded by cats and two tiny pet terriers.

Longest duration full-body burn: With 49 movie credits to his name, most recently in the 2015 remake of Point Break, stunt man Josef Toedtling from Austria has built a successful career by putting himself harm’s way… His exploits have seen him enter the Guinness World Records book for the first time this year – he holds the Longest duration full-body burn (no oxygen) with an awesome 5 mins 41 seconds, beating the previous record by 16 seconds. He also holds the record for Farthest distance pulled by a vehicle (full body burn) reaching a huge 582 metres – another skill learned on numerous film sets over his career.

Fastest Monowheel Motorcycle: Kevin Scott and the UK Monowheel Team have ended a 15-year domination of this category by their American counterparts by creating ‘WarHorse’, their record-breaking Monowheel. The WarHorse hits highs of 98.464 km/h (61.18 mph) beating the previous record holder by over 7km/h, and Kevin believes 75km/h is not out of reach in the near future – they won’t rest until the record is safe in the UK for good!

Longest monster truck: Jennifer and Brad Campbell of White Hills, Arizona, wanted to build a Monster Truck to take Las Vegas by storm, and have ended up conquering the world with theirs. Measuring 9.8 m (32 ft) and weighing in at a monster 6.804 tons, the truck can be found entertaining revellers in Las Vegas, dwarfing any of Sin City’s achievements. Jen said: “I would get the book every year when I was a kid and was always blown away with the records. I knew I was never going to outdo the longest nails, or lowest limbo… it’s awesome!”

The Upside Down Usain Bolt! (Fastest 50m on the hands carrying a football): 24 year-old Chinese student Zhang Shuang first took up hand walking after seeing a story online, which stated that walking on the hands for five minutes equates to two hours sleep. Stressed with exam revision and willing to try anything, he gave it a go and has not looked up since. Having achieved the 50m record in 26.06 seconds, Zhang is now training for the 100m too and is eyeing an attempt at the highly coveted Fastest 100m on all fours record – a particularly iconic GWR title currently held by Kenichi Ito of Japan.

And I almost always have a celebrity picture, this is Aevin, she holds the record for the world’s largest Afro!

GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS, the global authority on record-breaking achievements, will publish the 10th Anniversary Edition of the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition 2017. It is packed with incredible new and updated gaming records and fascinating feats recognized from the entire gamut of gaming.

I have an older copy of this book, and my son and I love to peruse this each year to read about amazing things, such as, A brand new UGC (User Generated Games) chapter reveals amazing talent such as Alex Tan’s achievement Most difficult level created in Super Mario Maker. His challenging level has been beaten just 49 times out of an astounding 1,550,870 attempts!
