September may be the unofficial end of summer, but it’s the start of one of the most popular times of the year – football season! It’s time to place your bets on your favorite team and your butts on your favorite TP. Whether you are at the stadium or simply hosting or attending a watch party, the OVER/UNDER debate may roll into the conversation.
I have written about this subject in the past, I am in the TP OVER camp. It throws me off when I am a guest in someone’s home and their toilet paper roll comes from under, I just feel uncomfortable! I blame my mom who raised me this way! I am 57 years old, why would I change now? Cumulatively I may have spent a year of my life sitting on the commode, and have always had my toilet paper in the over position. I remember a babysitting job for my parents’ friends, and being upset and changing the positioning of their toilet paper! I am not embarrassed to tell you that I remember this from 40 years ago, in their downstairs bathroom, being quite perturbed at the toilet paper being in the down position. It is possible I may never have encountered that before! I became very determined that this was wrong and changed it to “over.” Now that I am an adult, I wonder if they ever noticed! I did continue to work there, and they never mentioned it.
I do notice the positioning of folks toilet paper when we visit family for weekend football games on Staten Island. I don’t like it, but I have grown up enough to leave it the way it is! Most of them leave their toilet paper in the down position. I have to give credit for that training to my mother-in-law. She has stayed at my home many times, helped us when our son was younger, and always finished roll after roll of toilet paper, and left it in the down position. I also noticed that sometimes, even when not changing the roll, she changes its positioning. She would probably tell me that she did that so my father-in-law wouldn’t get confused.
My brother-in-law’s always have an extra “interest” in the weekend football games and talk about under and over, and now when I am there, it is going to have a whole other meaning for me! I also now understand what it means, I thought it related to the football spread in a game, but learned that it represents the over or under versus the total points (predicted score) in the game. I guess I am not too old to learn!
I like to illustrate my point, as shown below, with some corresponding Charmin fast facts. Please note that my hand positioning is not a reflection of my feelings regarding Charmin Ultra Soft vs. Charmin Ultra Strong, just on TP Positioning! I just realized that we are the same age! Oops, I don’t usually tell my age, but I’m also in the “over” camp – maybe it’s an old school thing. We rule!
I actually brought all three of my kids into the bathroom to demonstrate (quite dramatically) the correct way the toilet paper should be placed on the bar. It should be OVER! It’s not up for discussion.
i think mine is over too — i will have to start noticing this more, shoot should i go look now?
To be honest I never really paid attention to that! lol now that you mentioned it i’ll be looking now!
I always do over because when I put in the other direction our toilet paper holder so close to the wall I scraped my nails on the paint on the wall. Otherwise I really never pay attention to it LOL.
I’m with you! I’m in the “over” team lol.
I am definitely a toilet paper “over” type of person. It’s just weird to me when it’s put under!
I am in the over camp too! I find that it is is under it will not keep the TP from unrolling all over the place!
I am “Over” person all the way. I cannot take it when toilet paper is “Under.” It just doesn’t make sense and the world goes all topsy turvy. I do refrain from switching it unless I am at friends or family and then all bets are off.
Always over. Always. If not it drives me bonkers because I can’t use it .. I end up wasting toilet paper or getting it all tangled. I don’t know why. I do. I Also don’t pick a fight over it though, I simply switch it to how “it’s suppose to be” 😛
I’m team over! I get yelled at because I have a cat. Friends are always telling me that I’m going to come home to it all over the floor lol. So far I’ve been lucky!
I am in the over camp too! I just don’t understand the under method.
Totally over – there is no other way!
I hung my toilet paper under until I realized I’d never know if a spider were on it. That’s when I knew I’d have to be a Over hanger
I have always been team over, too! Charmin has also been my go-to TP brand over the years as well.
Omg! This post has me realizing that I’m one of the odd ones that doesn’t pay attention!!!! I have no idea how I usually put the roll on, but I do love Charmin!
I am with CourtneyLynne I have never really paid attention to the way the toilet paper is on!! Seriously, I put the darn roll on and walk away. I think I must just have too much else on my mind to worry about this subject 🙂
Haha glad I’m not the only one! Love Charmin, one of the only brand we use! Such a fun post!
Honestly, I have never thought about which way I prefer the toilet paper. As long as the TP is on the roll, that’s all I care about! LOL
I like it over but honestly I just want it replaced when someone either sneaks in to take mine (kids) as they think there are none in the hall closet. Or hubby finishes it and doesn’t put a new one on. Really?
Hahaha such a random post to stumble across, I love it! Definitely over, it makes no sense the other way lol
