Any Cirque du Soleil show is hard to describe, difficult to categorize, and just plain hard to explain! So many things going on, so much athleticism, acrobatics, and in this case, beautiful singing!
I have been to other Cirque shows, and while there may be a general theme, I enjoyed the fact that Paramour was set around one story line. I like that type of continuity. A singer is discovered and a Director wants to make a star of her. Along the way she realizes she has fallen in love with her pianist friend, the songwriter for the show, and thinks she has to make a choice between stardom and the Director who has now fallen in love with her, or the songwriter.
Cirque du Soleil has dazzled audiences the world over, and now it’s finally on Broadway with its boldest, most heart-soaring spectacle ever. PARAMOUR spins the thrilling tale of a beautiful young actress forced to choose between love and art in the glamorous world of Golden Age Hollywood. Featuring eye-popping acrobatics and sumptuous music and dance, PARAMOUR is a groundbreaking new event that will transport you to a sublime world of emotion and awe as it walks the exhilarating tightrope of the heart.
It is a play with a story, but it is also Cirque du Soleil. So there is acrobatics thrown in throughout as part of the way to illustrate the story and entertain us
This is a multi media production. There are screens on the sides of the auditorium where we can see some of the orchestra playing, or scenes from the show. There is a chase scene which is an elaborate gymnastic/trampoline scene. And there are trapeze artists throughout as well.
It was also quite exciting, on the last day of the 2016 Olympics, to find out that ex-Olympians find work with Cirque! Lee Brearley is a trampolinist in this show, he was an Olympian at the Sydney Olympics in 2000!
My 13 year old son brought a friend and the teenagers loved the show as well! They enjoyed the athleticism, the singing, the story line, everything! They told me to make sure I added that this show is good for all ages, and entertaining for everyone, a must see for those living in NYC, and those visiting us! We all highly recommend this show, and would go back as well!
