I have been a huge fan of the Tarzan franchise since I was 10. I have all 24 books from the Edgar Rice Burroughs series, and used to love watching the old Tarzan movies! That is why I was excited for this new Tarzan movie, The Legend of Tarzan, it is not the typical reboot telling the story of Tarzan’s origin, it is one of his future adventures where he is a mature adult, trying to aid those in his former homeland.
Alexander Skarsgard plays a fine grown up Tarzan. Perfect body, strong willed, and ready to do what is necessary to bring justice to the Congo and save Jane. He carried on the tradition of great Tarzan’s from the past, some of my favorites being Buster Crabbe and Johnny Weissmuller. As strong a will as John Clayton, Earl of Greystoke, had, so did his wife. Because Jane of the Jungle is no wimp!
Margot Robbie plays Tarzan’ wife, Jane. She is a strong willed woman, and never loses hope. She did a great job as Jane, also joining a long istory of terrific actresses playing the role, most notably Maureen O’Sullivan!
Samuel L. Jackson plays George Washington Williams, John Clayton, the Earl of Greystoke’s foil. Hs character is loosely based on a real person from that era, and there is some historical basis to the story line during which King Leopold of Belgium enslaved many in the Congo in the late 1800’s. There was more humor from Mr. Jackson’s character than there might have been in the old Tarzan’s, and I welcomed it to add to the flavor of this new Tarzan.
I loved the movie. The visuals were stunning. It was great to see an adult Tarzan handling the issues of the day. It was rough to see strong, independent tribesmen of Africa stolen from their villages, but that is a part of the history of that time. And Tarzan is there to help!
This is a great holiday weekend, Summer movie. And of course the Tarzan yell is here to hear, and when I heard it, great memories came flooding back from having seen so many other Tarzan movies!

Tarzan as an adult now I have to see this movie.
A wow, we are so looking forward to seeing Tarzan, just like you my second son, Jim absolutely loved Tarzan. As a child he wore out the VHS copy of the Disney cartoon version. He knew every word & song by heart. And he would sing his heart out. To my surprise Jim chose “You’ll be in my heart” by Phil Collins as the mother son song to dance to at his wedding. We cried as we danced, and do did everybody else in the room.
He just called earlier in the week to talk about the movie, and yes we will take a bit of time to see it together.
