“Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the DVD I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.
We needed a fresh look at zombies, and iZombie provides it.
Caused by a lethal drug combination, the zombies in this show can walk among the humans and not be discovered. As long as they get their regular nourishment in the form of brains!
Power up with your favorite brain food, and prepare for more fun and thrills! iZOMBIE stars Rose McIver as Olivia “Liv” Moore, a medical resident on the fast track to a perfect life … until she’s turned into a zombie. But Liv finds her calling — and an endless supply of food — working at the Seattle coroner’s office, helping to solve crimes with her “visions,” while her boss and sole confidante, Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti, works on a cure for her unthinkable condition. As season two begins, Liv’s ex-fiancé and love, Major, is reeling from recent events and the knowledge that Liv is a zombie. Meanwhile, Blaine — now human — struggles to maintain his zombie world; Clive searches for Blaine and suspects Major’s involvement in the Meat Cute massacre; and Ravi remains devoted to finding an antidote to the zombie virus. Unlikely alliances will be struck, relationships will be challenged and the line between good and evil will blur for both zombies and the fully living.
Pre-Zombie, Liv was a doctor, and now works in a morgue using her old medical skills, so brains are readily available. I have pleaded across social media for a cookbook based on the meals Liv makes in every show. The cooking segments are massively creative and hysterical! It seems that zombies prefer hot sauce with everything. A lot of it, and on everything! Liv has made spicy brain omelets, spicy brain burritos, and many more items in that vein, each more entertaining than the last. This is one of my favorite parts of each episode, the brain food recipes are fantastic!
And then, after you eat a brain you take on some of the dead person’s personality! For the actress playing Liv, it is like an acting exercise every week. She might start behaving obsessive compulsively, she may be extra horny, or anything from the many brains she eats. So each week, the actress has to act like herself and then go in and out acting like someone else. This is another part of the show that I love! And also showcases the terrific talent of Rose McIver. She has to act like two completely different people in every episode.
And it takes a village. From the detective that she helps when she has visions from the brains of the people she has eaten, to her morgue partner, to her ex-boyfriend, everyone lends a hand to try to keep Seattle from turning full on Zombie, because that would be great for this guy’s business!
Lastly, this DVD set contains two special features that are a must see! There is a featurette from the 2015 Comic-Con, and also deleted scenes! Those are the best!
Own iZombie Season Two on HD now, and on DVD on July 12! This show is fantastically entertaining! And get Season One if you are new to this, trust me, I have been hooked since the very first episode!
Looking forward to it
