I attended an event this week as a courtesy to a friend. I do not normally write about apps, but this one triggered some wonderful memories of Peter and the Wolf!
Most people do not know that in my pre-parent life I was a fundraiser for a major ballet company. My very first job was selling Peter and the Wolf! It was to be performed in Los Angeles, and we went into great detail about the celebrity narrators they were participating. I immediately fell in love with the Prokofiev score, and that job ended up being my career for 14 years. It enabled me to pay for my son’s adoption! And it all started with the ballet version of the above, which is now a great app for kids!
“Prokofiev’s 1936 children’s classic, reinvented as an interactive musical adventure. Kids travel through a sculpted, painted, animated wonderland as they immerse themselves in great classical music, and try to save Hollywood from a wolf on the loose.”
This is a terrific app! I downloaded it on my phone and iPad, and love the idea that it has many functions for us parents.
Here are my top five reasons for purchasing the app:
1. The story is broken up into three parts and can be used as night-time reading with your kids! It has three 12-15 minute pieces, the perfect length for a bedtime story.
2. The music is wonderful, we used to play classical music for our son all the time (we were told it would help his Math skills!), and he is now a musician!
3. The visuals are marvelous, instead of using CGI, they used pictures and hand made pieces! It reminds me of a comic book, it is a great way for the kids to view the story.
4. There are games on the iPad version. Fun, constructive games. Nothing too fast paced like the video games my 13 year old son now plays, I especially loved the robot building!
5. The story is narrated by Alice Cooper.
The famous rock and roller, the man with the crazy reputation for unbelievable antics on stage, turned out to be perfect for this story. After all, he is a 68 year old father of three, with twin grandkids under two years old. Mr. Cooper was an absolute pleasure to chat with, more down to earth than almost anyone I have met. He spoke about the fun he had with voicing the different characters, from the hippie grandfather to the diva cat! This was one of the best interviews I have ever participated in!
And I got to chat with his wife! An ex-ballet dancer herself, I shared my memories of this story, and then she showed me a picture of her and her hubby right before they go on stage! It was fantastic!!
So get the app! It is perfect for the under 10 crowd, check out the www.PeterandtheWoflinHollywood.com site for all the information you need to discover what a wonderful addition this will be to your children’s life!
And here is my favorite video, a clip showing how the app came to life:

This sounds very cool! I don’t have any young children (mine are teens/young adults) but I still really want to check this out. Love the music from Peter and The Wolf.
