Doc McStuffins to become a big sister again, this time through the miracle of adoption!
I love Doc McStuffins, and I am thrilled to share with you that her parents are going to adopt a baby this Spring! The McStuffins family is set to grow larger, and the parents are doing it through the process of adoption:
The McStuffins family experiences the joys of adoption and also now must adjust to a new baby in the house in a multi-episode story arc of Disney Junior’s Peabody Award-winning animated series “Doc McStuffins,” beginning FRIDAY, MARCH 4 (8:00-8:30 a.m. EST) on Disney Channel. Geared toward kids age 2-7 and their families, baby-themed episodes will continue to roll out on Disney Channel, Disney Junior and Disney Junior on Demand throughout the spring. These new storylines will give viewers a chance to see the different emotions and situations other young children encounter when a new baby arrives in the family!
As the parent of an adopted child, I think this is fantastic. I always discussed adoption with my son as he was growing up, and always pointed out how many other kids in his class were adopted. I never wanted him to feel he was different. Or, rather, I wanted him to see that many others had families that were different. Seeing a major children’s show showcase this process is heartwarming to me, and will help many other children who’s family was created or grown through adoption, to feel more accepted:
Experts Adam Pertman, President and Founder of the National Center on Adoption and Permanency and author of “Adoption Nation,” and David Brodzinsky, Ph.D., Director of Research, National Center on Adoption and Permanency, and Professor Emeritus of Clinical and Developmental Psychology, Rutgers University, served as consultants on the episodes. “Children’s shows can have a significant impact on how their young viewers understand the world, so it’s wonderful that Disney Junior is depicting adoption as a normative, positive way to form a family,” said Pertman. “Even more than that, it’s heartening that the producers sought professional input in order to ‘get it right’ about the language, people and sensitivities involved.”
And my whole family has met the young Doc a few times, she was an absolute delight!
Be sure to tune in to this new part of the McStuffin’s family journey!
