Lucasfilm and visionary director J.J. Abrams join forces to take you back again to a galaxy far, far away as “Star Wars” returns to the big screen with “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” The film stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Max Von Sydow.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” releases in U.S. theaters on December 18, 2015
The next great action and adventure movie to hit the theaters is Star Wars: The Force Awakens! A new evil empire, the First Order, a new Darth Vader like villain serving a new evil super villain, Kylo Ren & Supreme Leader Snoke, and a new Death Star. There is also a new R2D2 in the form of BB8, and a female character similar to Luke Skywalker.
As someone who saw the first Star Wars movie when it was first released, this was a refreshing piece with huge amounts of nostalgia. Seeing Han Solo and Chewbacca flying in the original Millennium Falcon, brought tears to my eyes. Princess Leia is General Leia! Memories flooded back seeing my favorite characters on the big screen again, and I have to admit to being teary eyed and goose bumped a couple of times!
BB8 is adorable!
Daisy Ridley plays Rey, a scavenger on an outpost planet that gets caught up in the current drama to find Luke Sky Walker. But is she the new Luke Sky Walker?
Finn, played by John Boyega, is a reformed stormtrooper, and our other hero, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, is a Resistance X-wing fighter pilot:
This newest installment in the Star Wars franchise has amazing action scenes, some old characters, and some great new characters! And, there is some great humor throughout. BB8 is very funny, Chewbacca also has some very funny lines which of course we only get to hear in translation. The humor, the nostalgia, and the fantastic special effects are why I enjoyed the movie and look forward to seeing it twice in one week! We return to the Force on Sunday to see it as a family, and this time we see it in 3D!
This is also a movie with a lot of violence: one on one combat, larger battles between X-Wing Fighters and the New Order, and also entire planets blowing up. I do not suggest this movie for anyone under 10 years old for that reason. With that being said, based on the popularity of the Star Wars movies, parents will bring children that are younger, just be aware of how much death and destruction the kids will be seeing on the big screen.
This new Star Wars movie will break all box office records and we will not see anything come close to this for many years. The movie did a great job of advancing the story line, and setting us up for the next installment. I give this movie a 4.8/5 stars!
And our new Star Wars hero is a girl! She will be the next great female role model for many years to come. The force is strong in her, and she will inspire many of your young women, this was Daisy Ridley’s movie! Finn, is also a new role model, he escapes the First Order and has a bout of cowardice and then comes to realize he is needed and he must help, and he wants to be a part of the solution. This shows younger kids that they do not have to start out brave and confident, that can come as part of a learning process. Not to over analyze for our young people, but it is a great lesson illustrated herein. We have some great new role models and life lessons in this film!
This movie is not about sex and bad language (almost non-existent), but again, the level of violence is something parents will have to figure out, is it too much for their kids, or can they have discussions about it, because many younger children will not want to miss out on this new Star Wars adventure. I give the movie a 4.7 out of 5 in regards to violence, there was some blood, a lot of fighting, and a lot of things blowing up! Forewarned is forearmed. prepare the younger ones for what they are about to see. The bad guy is a dark character, and the stormtroopers are not on our side!
