Alcatel Phone Review

The ALCATEL ONETOUCH Cricket IDOL 3  has interesting features for music fans and is an excellent device for those who don’t want to spend a fortune on a good phone.

The Cricket IDOL 3 is available with activation from Cricket Wireless for $149.99. It offers a premium smartphone experience (13 MP camera, dual-facing JBL Audio speakers, Technicolor Color Enhance Full HD display) and would be of particular interest for those who are interested in music such as my son. With ALCATEL ONETOUCH Mix app and Cricket’s Deezer music app (both streaming music services), you can import music from any source and mix and mash it.

My son is 12. My son is a tween. There are no tweens in his school that do not have phones, and if there are, they stay in the shadows. My son has been on Instagram and taking pictures for a few years now, so the 13 MP camera is fantastic for him!

I will also take every opportunity to brag about my son. He used to play drums, he is currently playing guitar, and he is in the Glee club. I think he is good enough for a solo in the Winter concert, but my point is, he is all about music, as are most tweens and teens, even those not heavily invested like he is. He is my only child and as he changes, we all learn and grow. And by changing, learning, and growing, I have been noticing earbuds disappearing, and then seeing them on my son more hours a day than I would like. He has started, in the last few months, to listen to music on his phone. For hours, when he walks outside (yes, I constantly remind him to listen to the noises of the streets!), and when he is shooting hoops. When he saw this phone’s music capabilities, he flipped!

This phone is perfect for parents to buy for their tweens or teens due to it’s low cost and the high risk of children losing or breaking their phones. It is completely equipped to satisfy all smartphone needs at any age with really cool bonus music features as mentioned above. I need it for an additional reason:

My son ate all my data. And I did not know, and my carrier, on my first visit to investigate what was happening, told me nothing. All they did was try to sell me a new plan. I returned a week later and another customer service employee was able to show me that it was my son’s phone line that was using all my data, and I had to increase my plan immediately. He is lucky that I had a spare phone that I could forward my number to, and for the first time in his tween years, he apologized!

His increased picture taking, his constant listening to music on his phone, and his inability to remember to shut it off in school (although the volume is off so of course I can not reach him after school!) all contributed to his lack of responsibility in regards to data usage. As I said earlier, this is a new learning experience for all of us, these are new situations that have only arisen since the end of the Summer, and things never going to change back to the ways of my son’s earlier years.

When I received word that I could review this phone, I knew it was perfect for our situation. 12 year olds know no limits or boundaries, especially because most of us parents are paying for their service. With this new phone it is no longer my job to make sure he has enough data to watch YouTube videos for hours. He is about to learn to grow up a little and learn some self control.

And I love this astronaut phone case from Duckie! It is sturdy which is a necessity for tween boys!

Thank-you Alcatel, and just in time for the holidays, We had been shopping around for a new phone for my son anyway, now he gets to learn responsibility as well, by trying not to run out of the data that he is now going to be responsible for! Plans start as low as $35 which is fantastic. I know because I went to a different provider with an extra phone I had received during the year.  That phone would only work with that provider, and even though I was not buying a new phone with a plan, the minimum monthly payment was $78. I cancelled after one week, and am thrilled to start my son at $35 a month!
