Best Buy celebrates the festival of lights with a special Diwali e-gift card!
What is Diwali?
Diwali, popularly known as the “festival of lights,” is one of the most important Hindu festivals celebrated mainly in India. It celebrates the triumph of inner light dispelling spiritual darkness or ignorance, right over wrong and good over evil. It is celebrated by the lighting of small clay lamps and bursting firecrackers, wearing new clothes and sharing sweets with family and friends.
I first became aware of this holiday after I became a parent as there were several kids with Asian Indian backgrounds in my son’s classes! Both parents were first generation American, and I was thrilled for the opportunity to learn about the various differences between cultures, and also within cultures. I am still amazed that as many different states as there are in India, is as many languages there are. My one friend would always come home frustrated from visiting her in-laws, because in that state, a different language was spoken versus the language that she knew, from her parents home Indian state. And we think we have it difficult in our 50 American states with only different accents!
One of the reasons we live in NYC and raise our son here is because of the diversity. And that is just as much for the parents as for the kid! We have learned so much from our friends of all backgrounds, I am so happy I get to share this with them and let them see that they are being represented at Best Buy, and their holiday recognized, so they do not have to give a generic gift card, but can give one with more meaning!
Best Buy would like to celebrate this festival with a special Diwali e-Gift Card that is available online through Nov. 15 at www.bestbuy.com/egiftcard under the “Occasions” tab!
