These little figures with suction-cup hands and feet can stick to almost any flat surface, making them easy to pose. The free Stikbot Studio app, available on iOS and Android, snaps individual photos and stitches them together into a film. The app is complete with music and sound effects. Kids can share their original videos in the creative community with hashtag #Stikbot, and see what others are making all over the world, making it one of the first-ever social media toys.

And that’s how StikBot is totally on trend and different from other toys! The hashtag is today’s conversation; and social sharing is how kids communicate now by creating pictures and videos and sharing them with their friends. It’s today’s new “traditional play pattern.” With StikBot, Zing combines that play pattern with what kids are doing and how they are playing with technology and communicating with each other. StikBot was designed exclusively with social media sharing in mind.  Kids become part of a social community using their creativity with the StikBot figure and the free, easy-to-use app to create stop-motion videos they then upload (to the StikBot community) with the #StikBot hashtag.

I came home from a toy event the other day and showed my son this set. He took it and went into his room. He then asked to use my phone rather than his old model Windows phone and the next thing I know, I saw this:

He had taken a delivery box we had received, cut a hole in the top and duct-taped a flashlight, and set up the tripod from the StikBot package. He made several stop action videos, here is my favorite:

My holiday gift guide is based on what I see on trend in the world, and what I see on trend in my house. My son was thrilled with the possibilities of this “toy.” He worked diligently for an hour creating different scenes. I had no idea until I went into his room and followed up with him, I was thrilled to see his creative side take over, and I was also very happy to see how interested he was in this product which, while considered a “toy,” works for me as the beginning of a film making career!
