Just announced: the launch of PlayOn 4.0 – the new all-in-one streaming console from PlayOn – and it’s free! The new PlayOn is a complete streaming solution – a desktop app with corresponding mobile apps and device apps. It includes all the functionality you have come to expect with cable TV and streaming sites – a channel listing, recommendations for you, featured content, DVR, automatic DVR recordings of new content upon release (called subscriptions), ability to watch now on PC, cast or stream to TV or mobile, use of mobile as Remote Control to cast or schedule recordings, recording queue with queue management, ability to record all of a given show/series for binge watching, the freedom to move recordings to any device (unrestricted) and AdSkip for all recorded content. It truly has it all. Whether you are a frequent traveler stocking up shows for the plane, a mom trying to entertain kids on the go, a new streamer, or an experienced streamer – PlayOn will make your life easier and more entertaining! Put simply, PlayOn is going to redefine the way we stream, just as the cable box and the DVR redefined the way we watched traditional TV.
The new PlayOn is offered in a “freemium” model. PlayOn is free to download and use to watch streaming shows on your PC and stream or cast any local content to your TV. Upgrading to PlayOn Plus will open up the recording and DVR features, streaming and casting of online content to TV and mobile, and the highly coveted AdSkip feature that lets you skip over all ads when watching a recording with a single click. Upgrading to Plus is simple and inexpensive $4.99/month, $39.99/year or $59.99 for a lifetime license. All existing customers with PlayOn+PlayLater (our former products) will be grandfathered into PlayOn Plus and will automatically receive the additional features of Plus. They are also unveiling a new website and branding to accompany PlayOn 4.0. You can have a look at that at www.playon.tv.
I was sent a complimentary lifetime license for PlayOn. I asked for it because:
And this does not include my Netflix and Hulu and a few other channels that are on my phone and tablet.
You download and set up the app on your desktop/laptop, and then set all your log ins. Then you do not have to do it again for each device like I had to with all my phones and tablets.
Disclosure: I received a free premium membership for review. All opinions are always 100% honest and my own.
