“In Genndy Tartakovsky’s Hotel Transylvania 2 from Sony Pictures Animation, Drac’s pack is back for an all-new monster comedy adventure! Everything seems to be changing for the better at Hotel Transylvania… Dracula’s rigid monster-only hotel policy has finally relaxed, opening up its doors to human guests. But behind closed coffins, Drac is worried that his adorable half-human, half-vampire grandson, Dennis, isn’t showing signs of being a vampire. So while Mavis is busy visiting her human in-laws with Johnny – and in for a major cultural shock of her own – “Vampa” Drac enlists his friends Frank, Murray, Wayne and Griffin to put Dennis through a “monster-in-training” boot camp. But little do they know that Drac’s grumpy and very old, old, old school dad Vlad is about to pay a family visit to the hotel. And when Vlad finds out that his great-grandson is not a pure blood – and humans are now welcome at Hotel Transylvania – things are going to get batty! The film is directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, written by Robert Smigel & Adam Sandler, and produced by Michelle Murdocca.”
We laughed the whole way through. I have to admit after seeing the first one I had hoped there would be a second one as I find the whole idea of Hotel Transylvania, where “monsters” are just regular people except for the different idiosyncrasies associated with their particular form of monsterhood, hilarious.
The Drac pack set out to help Count Dracula’s grandson realize his true nature as a vampire, something which is supposed to become apparent as he gets his fangs on his 5th birthday. We are waiting for that to happen, and one of the stops is at Vampire camp. Much like any other sleep away camp, this modern monster camp is fun for the kids as they learn how to use their powers in a very non scary way. Dracula is not happy with what he sees at hos old camp.
Meanwhile, the parents are scouting out a home in the real world. Jonathan has become quite happy in the hotel, but Mavis wants to see the outside world and she is quite happy with all that she sees. She really just wants her son to be OK and have a place to grow up if he turns out not to have the family characteristics from her side of the family!
This is the perfect kids movie. Full of monsters who are not scary. And this is the perfect parents movie. Hilarious throughout and a surprise Great Grandpa at the end!
