Survivor’s Remorse follows Cam Calloway, a basketball phenomenon in his early 20’s who is suddenly thrust into the limelight after signing a multi-million dollar basketball contract with a professional team in Atlanta. He know has all the riches and fame he has always dreamed of. Followed by his family: sister, mother, cousin and wife, and uncle, this entourage could be a major liability.
Season Two starts Saturday, August 22, 2015:
And I was privileged to sit and participate in an interview with Tichina Arnold who plays Cam’s mom on the show!
Firstly, I have to start off by saying I have been a huge Tichina Arnold fan since I first saw her on the Martin Show back in the 90’s! Then I got to hear her sing on Fran Drescher’s show, (where she played the best friend) Happily Divorced! In the meantime my son had become a fan from watching her on Everyone Hates Chris, and my whole family loved her the 12+ times we watched our DVD of Little Shop of Horrors!
I was able to Periscope a snippet and share it here via YouTube, she is describing her co-stars:
Season One is available on demand an is only six episodes, which is not enough. The show is about a situation that we are constantly reading about, someone struggling with becoming rich overnight. Whether it is an underprivileged youth getting a huge sports contract, or a lottery winner, this show illustrates the various pitfalls that come along with instant riches.
Cam supports multiple family members. I love his cousin, who is also his manager, because he works over time trying to keep Cam grounded in reality. Cam buys the Aston anyway, but someone has to put some money away for the future when the career is over! The cousins wife is also a terrific character, she got them into a country club, even if it wasn’t their first choice!
And Cam’s sister is an out and proud lesbian. She makes no effort to hide who she is and this is one of my most favorite things of Survivor’s Remorse. Her family rally’s around her when the Reverend in the church they are reviewing, comes out against gays. That was a hysterical scene!
Cam’s uncle provides some laughs, his interview process for prospective girlfriends for his nephew are too much!
And my favorite, Tichina Arnold plays Cam’s mom. A woman who struggled her whole life and now gets taken care of by her millionaire son. I am just thrilled to see her on screen again, she is one tough cookie. My favorite scene from Season One is where she and her daughter are put in their place when trying to buy a mansion from someone they might actually be related to from a hundred years earlier! I cannot wait for Season Two of this show!
I was thrilled to have my picture taken with Miss Tichina Arnold:
