How do I get to Walt Disney World for free?
Several years ago I signed up for the British Ariways credit card in the hopes of traveling to Europe for free with a companion, first class! Little did I realize that frequent flier tickets with British Airways require you to pay for gas. $800-$100 worth of gas. I thought my Avios miles were worthless.
But wait! British Airways code shares with American Airlines! And, the trick with this type of ticket is that they charge you per distance. For example, most airlines frequent flier programs cost 25,000 miles for travel within the 48 contiguous US. British Airways does not charge a flat rate, but rather goes by distance, so from NYC to Orlando it cost 75,000 miles for 3 free tickets, first class!
How do I stay at World Disney World for free?
You have to stay at the Dolphin or the Swan. Both have points programs. We used Starwood points and stayed for free. Peter and I both signed up for the Starwoods Amex card and received 25,000 points each for spending $3000 on the cards over three months. Paying off Paul’s camp took care of that! There is no fee for the first year, and when that is up I cancel the cards!
There are other nearby properties, but none are on WDW land like these are. You can pull this off with the nearby Wyndham property as well, but more transportation is involved, and you do not get extra magic hours like you do when you stay at the Swan and Dolphin.
You do lose two amenities when you stay at these properties. You cannot use the Magical Express, so you do incur the cost of a taxi, possibly round trip. We are headed to another park after our stay this year, so the add on is the cost of a taxi one way. You also cannot use the meal plan. We never have, so no loss for us. And, we get to stay on the Lake, an area we have been trying to get back to ever since our first Disney Social Media Moms four years ago, when we stayed at the Yacht Club. We think this is the best location for our family. I will report back later on those results!
How do I get Walt Disney World Park Tickets for free?
You don’t You never will. You cannot.
Or can you?
For me it was all about the Target gift card. I traded in Wyndham Hotel points for Target gift cards. I had Target gift cards I received for my birthday. I got paid for a Target job with a Target gift card. And I won a Target gift card from a sweepstakes.
I went to Target and bought as many Disney gift cards as I could. I used them along with the other Visa and Amex gift cards I had collected for blog work and proceeded to buy my park tickets. We are headed to Walt Disney World and our total cost is projected to be $1000 for airfare, tickets, and hotel. Of course we need every extra penny for all the food we are going to eat!
Lastly, my spouse and I both opened separate Disney Visa accounts. After spending a nominal amount, we both received a $200 Disney Gift Card: $400 IN FREE DISNEY MONEY!!

Talk about plotting and planning. You definitely worked all angles possible. I’m familiar with Starwood points but need to work on maximizing it.

Wow. That is wonderful. It took awhile, but totally worth the wait and time. I was able to take my family of 6 to Gatlinburg this Spring on around $250. Pretty good considering it is 2 states away. IWe had to eat McDonalds a lot, as I had a $85 gift card for there at the time. Disney is my dream trip, but still out of reach. I think I will try your long term points goal tactic though, and set my sights on aiming for that goal. I was unable to use 2 Disney tickets I won 2 years ago, as I couldn’t afford the extra money for all of us to go. (They found a good person who used them and even proposed to his girlfriend while there.) Thanks for your tips, and I hope your Disney Trip is a dream come true for you.
