“Using an innovative business model to create a global community whose mission is to change lives for the better, will allow customers to donate 10% of their monthly cellphone spend to a cause of their choice; at no extra cost to them and without sacrificing good service. Jimmy Wales, Chairman of TPO and Founder of Wikipedia said: “The launch of TPO in America is an incredible milestone for the business. This is only the beginning of the social good we will initiate with the support of our customers and collaborations with additional charities who are joining our goodness movement. TPO puts customers and the causes they care about first, so the more we can facilitate the company’s growth in the US, the more funds we will be able to pass to the communities that need it while our portfolio of cause partners continues to grow.”

I just switched my phone service to which just launched in the US at the end of July, and I’m excited to be working with them as an Ambassador to help spread what they’re about, because it’s good. Never heard of them, right? So why would you switch? Easy. They do offer great service and prices, but, and here’s the best part, they donate 10% of each bill directly to a charity you choose at no extra cost to you. I am a strong supporter of several charities and am thrilled to add to my giving this way. With TPO we can literally support them just by using our cell phones, which we do every day anyway. It’s the easiest way to lend support from all of us.
And I picked Housing Works. “Housing Works is a healing community of people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. Our mission is to end the dual crises of homelessness and AIDS through relentless advocacy, the provision of lifesaving services, and entrepreneurial businesses that sustain our efforts. ” I started donating my slightly used clothes to them almost 20 years ago when I lived in Chelsea. Yes, I received a tax receipt, and yes getting rid of old clothes was great for someone who needed the room to buy new clothes. I have also made cash donations to them, and have been supporting them several times a year. And our donations grew since we had a child 12 years ago who out grew his fancy designer clothes before they ever showed sign of wear and tear. I am thrilled to add to my own continuing support of Housing Works through TPO!
Social change and exciting philanthropic advocacy lies at the heart of the business operation, which will harness consumers’ desire to make the world a better place by simply using their mobile phone. TPO will empower those who wish to “do good” with the means to donate a percentage of their bill to a charity or cause of their choosing, including TPO cause partners such as the World Wildlife Fund, Save the Children, the ASPCA and Feeding America.

But what about service? Delivering goodness with every connection, however, doesn’t mean sacrificing on price or service. Charity or not, if you want to get and keep customers, competitive rates, good customer service, and great cell service are all necessary:
“Mark Epstein, CEO, The People’s Operator said: “In addition to making a difference for causes, we want to make sure we’re ‘delivering goodness’ to our customers too. It’s important to us that we deliver highly competitive deals and a great quality of service in addition to the mission to make a difference. “With TPO, you’ll still see competitive rates with bundles starting from just $9 and we’ve worked hard to train our customer service teams, all based in the US, to deliver a seamless, high-quality customer service experience.”
Founded in 2012, The People’s Operator first launched in the United Kingdom; matching the ability to raise funds for a wide range of social causes with a high quality mobile service and excellent customer service. TPO’s ongoing commitment to instigate a global social movement for good will now be realized in the U.S. market; supported with a promotional campaign that will encompass live digital feeds from the newly-launched TPO Community, on , experiential activities and a program of TPO inspired content which will include cause-related testimonials, news updates, videos from charity partners and the community they support – a key component to TPO’s call-to-action strategy – and incentives to join the TPO social movement. “TPO’s mobile service is only the beginning of our mission to create a positive change,” added Wales. “We are beginning to build a global, online community on TPO.com where like-minded consumers can discuss and share their ideas to bring goodness to all, whilst also being able to donate directly to their cause of choice.”

I am thrilled to be working with a company who’s very mission statement is about supporting charity. I love that this company is also run by the founder of Wikipedia, a site that I visit for information almost daily. And, lastly, I am excited that this has already been a success overseas. I am excited to support this company and hope to bring you all along for the journey of automatically giving money to our favorite charities, just by paying our cell phone bills!

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post, I am a blogger for The People’s Operator, though all opinions are my own.
I love it when companies give back. This is such a great idea.
Wow, this is such a GREAT idea! I don’t know a single adult without a cell phone and if we all switched to this company we could make such a charitable difference. Thanks for sharing this!
I love this idea! I mean, I’m paying my cell phone bill anyway! Why not let part of that go towards a good cause?
I hope more companies will follow this lead. I like to support businesses who value giving back to charities.
This company is spectacular for helping out and giving back. It makes me smile.
