I make it a point to serve fresh or frozen fish to my family at least once a week. We all know how healthy fish is, it is also important to change things up so your family doesn’t get bored with your cooking!
Bumble Bee white tuna in water was the tuna fish that I was brought up on and had no idea the company branched out into frozen fresh seafood. I was anxious to try their offerings because this is a brand that I already had confidence in. And then I also learned the following:
“Some of the ‘fresh’ fish available in markets has actually been frozen, then thawed, then displayed on ice, where it can sit for days. Bumble Bee SuperFresh® seafood’s fresh taste and wonderful texture are the result of near-fanatical quality control. From flash-freezing at below zero temperature to prepping with all-natural ingredients to vacuum-packing for protection, “fresh” is so important, it’s a part of the product’s name.”
I have worked with food brands before and do believe what they say about their food prep. That is how I learned that a brand of frozen vegetables actually flash froze their various items within hours of picking. These companies have to fight for our consumer dollars, and we benefit because they are taking great care to bring us better and better products. I like that, and I especially like their “near-fanatical” quality control. After all, isn’t that the level of care we give to our families?
There are no preservatives in the Bumble Bee SuperFresh fish either. Haven’t we all seen those ads were companies challenge you to pronounce some of the words in some foods ingredient lists? Not a worry here. Hence the term “clean label,” no unpronounceable or long list of ingredients! Here are the ingredients in the Tilapia with Lemon, Pepper and Herbs: Tilapia, extra virgin olive oil, fresh lemon peel, sea salt, black pepper, shallots, lemon, and parsley. Wow, just as simple as if you cooked it at home. Also, the packaging is designed so no preservatives are needed, another benefit of buying frozen fish, the extreme cold and vacuum packing, preserves the fish.
The next most important item for me is the sourcing of the fish. I try not to buy farmed fish, and I try not to buy fish from countries with food regulations that have lower standards than that of the USA.
“All Bumble Bee SuperFresh® seafood is sourced from wild fisheries or aquaculture farms that have earned official certification from strict third party organizations such as Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP), Global GAP (GAP), and the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC). Our scallops are rated a “Best Choice” by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch.”
The Shrimp is from Thailand.
The Tilapia is from Indonesia.
The Salmon is from Chile or Norway.
The Scallops are from China.
I have been buying wild fish since it is healthier than farmed, and it is expensive. My son and I have also gotten the various pamphlets from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch (MBASW), they have them at the NY Aquarium. We do not want to eat endangered species, so I will pay more to help our planet. I am completely satisfied with the work Bumble Bee has done in finding this great sourcing for their fish. I will buy farmed fish with the above certification, that is something I will feed my family. If the MBASW says the scallops from China are highly rated, I trust that. Lastly, sustainability is something that I think about as the next generation has to have fish in the ocean and food to eat!
I bought the Tilapia and the Salmon My local store did not have the Shrimp or the Scallops, I am going to search near my mother-in-laws house for those!
It was so easy. And, it includes parchment paper as that is an excellent way to cook fish, it helps maintain the moisture. I already knew this and have parchment paper in my house because I am an avid food show watcher! We cooked two servings, one of each variety, and it took only 20 minutes. (Each pack comes with two servings so we still have another dinner to look forward to later this week!) I did nothing more than turn on the stove and make sure the fish was sealed in the parchment paper!
Why did I think only restaurants could serve tasty and healthy fish? One reason is because I am afraid I am going to ruin this expensive item with my cooking (or over cooking as my family might tell you if I let them talk!). The simplicity of this line of fish from Bumble Bee is chef created and stays away from adding extra calories with breading. Since there is no breading this is also gluten free! I just care that it helps my New Year’s resolution to eat healthier.
My son loved both and I let him have the salmon for dinner.
I finished the Tilapia after pulling it way from him, he was about to finish that one while I was checking the camera!!
And the best quote of the night comes from my son who is always brutally honest: “It’s very surprising. You made a good meal for once.” When I quote my son, I never make it up. These were his exact words as he was finishing up the salmon. I can take the compliment!
This is a wonderful cooking idea for your intimate Valentine’s Day dinner, something easy and healthy that you can cook at home, and serve restaurant quality food! Please visit the Bumble Bee SuperFresh site for recipes ideas and wine pairings, who says you have to go out for a delicious Valentine’s Day healthy fish dinner, you can easily prepare it at home, with the right wine, for far less money. Now my honey can buy me a bigger gift!

I didn’t know that Bumble Bee made frozen fish! That is super cool, I’ll have to check them out next time we have fish.
I remember when Bumble Bee only made tuna, or maybe that was all I ever bought. I am going to look in our supermarket and see if I can find these.
I will have to look for this in the store.
I am definitely all for easy meals like that. I didn’t realize either that Bumble Bee had moved into the fresh fish arena.
I should serve more fish. Sounds like a great meal.
I love fish! I love how it’s already seasoned!

Love that you eat fish at least once a week!! My DIL only eats fish or chicken, I wonder if she knows about Bumble Bee being flash frozen. I’m sure gonna tell her! 🙂
I had o idea Bumble Bee was more than just tuna! I love the varieties of frozen offered
I had no idea Bumble Bee made other fresh fish products. I love their snack/to-go cups but I will definitely be giving this a try.

I had no idea Bumble Bee had frozen and fresh sea food! Thanks for sharing this with me – it’s definitely a product that I’ll be looking for. Looks super yummy!
Bumble Bee is such a great brand. I started buying their tuna a few years ago because it was cheaper and tasted better than Sun Kist. I didn’t know they had fish too!
We live in South Florida and do a lot of fishing, but can’t exactly fish for salmon or tilapia (they don’t swim around here)! LOL I love that Bumble Bee has these options!
These look great! I’ve always loved the quality of Bumblebee tuna, so I imagine this would be just as high quality. I’ll have to pick some up.
