From Walt Disney Animation Studios, the team behind “Frozen” and “Wreck-It Ralph,” comes “Big Hero 6,” an action-packed comedy-adventure about the special bond that develops between Baymax (voice of Scott Adsit), a plus-sized inflatable robot, and prodigy Hiro Hamada (voice of Ryan Potter). When a devastating event befalls the city of San Fransokyo and catapults Hiro into the midst of danger, he turns to Baymax and his close friends adrenaline junkie Go Go Tomago (voice of Jamie Chung), neatnik Wasabi (voice of Damon Wayans Jr.), chemistry whiz Honey Lemon (voice of Genesis Rodriguez) and fanboy Fred (voice of T.J. Miller). Determined to uncover the mystery, Hiro transforms his friends into a band of high-tech heroes called “Big Hero 6.”
I previewed the movie two weeks ago with my son. I had also seen approximately 20 minutes of the movie last July on my Disney press trip. I knew it would be awesome, and I was right. My son loved it as well.
All the characters were good, and T. J. Miller stood out for me as one of the best. I know him as a comedian from the Chelsea Lately round table, and his comedic sense of timing and humor comes through in the movie.
The character of Baymax is one that you will easily fall in love with. A simple, kind soul, he only means to do good for mankind. Always.
And the tech ideas are terrific! Funny enough, we saw the latest Transformers movie a few days after the preview and some of the nano tech rang familiar, and T. J. Miller was in that as well, we had a good laugh at that. I like the way the nano tech robots were used here, it made more technological sense. And the villain may not be whom you first suspect!
And with all great Disney movies that come out in the Fall, a special animated short is also presented. This one is called “Feast.” Again, we got to preview this in July. It was even more delicious the second time. It is such a pleasure to watch genius on the screen, that is what you can expect from Disney Animation every time! This one was directed by Robert Osborne, a Disney employee who entered his idea and had it make it to final approval and then produced. What a great incentive for a company to provide for its employees, the opportunity to see their work produced like this!
