During the Fall we tend to check out the costume stores often. My son usually ends up with more than one costume, and that is not because he is spoiled, it is more of a necessity! No denial there. Until Fairway took over the corner of 30th Street and 2nd Avenue in NYC, there was a Spirit Halloween store that was more than a costume store. It was also a Haunted House, but very open and kid friendly. There were many accessories for your home that you could test out, many areas of characters and costumes set up in delightful displays, and interactive sections. This company knows how to market to kids and families, we would have a nice long adventure every weekend inside there!

And this great Halloween costume chain also has a terrific charitable initiative that you should know about. That is something that increases my likelihood of shopping in a store, that is why I mention it: “At the heart of Spirit Halloween is Spirit of Children, a program which focuses on making hospitals less scary for kids and their families. Some of my local NYC hospitals they are helping are Children of Bellevue at Bellevue Hospital Center, St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children, and Maimonides Medical Center. Bellevue is up the block from my house!

For the 2014 Halloween season, Spirit of Children’s goal is to raise $5.2 million, bringing its total contribution to more than $21 million since its inception in 2006. Spirit encourages customers to help make a difference in a child’s life this Halloween season and raise awareness about the program via Facebook and Instagram by using #SpiritofChildren in their photos.” It would be awesome if you could do that with your kids costume this year.
