From Walt Disney Animation Studios, “Big Hero 6,” an action-packed comedy-adventure about the special bond that develops between Baymax (voice of Scott Adsit), a plus-sized inflatable robot, and prodigy Hiro Hamada (voice of Ryan Potter). When a devastating event befalls the city of San Fransokyo and catapults Hiro into the midst of danger, he turns to Baymax and his close friends adrenaline junkie Go Go Tomago (voice of Jamie Chung), neatnik Wasabi (voice of Damon Wayans Jr.), chemistry whiz Honey Lemon (voice of Genesis Rodriguez) and fanboy Fred (voice of T.J. Miller). Determined to uncover the mystery, Hiro transforms his friends into a band of high-tech heroes called “Big Hero 6.”
We previewed about 20 minutes of this movie in July while we were on our blogger Disney/Marvel/ABC Family press trip. The movie wasn’t yet finished but considering this was the big Fall release (last year was Frozen, the year before, Wreck-It Ralph), there are high expectations. I, for one, knew within minutes that this was a hugely interesting and entertaining movie. It has a little more complicated theme over the last few animated pictures Disney has put out, and for me it was just some more brilliant science fiction, and with an anime feel to it! I was mesmerized from the start by the animation and the story.
I can’t wait to see this in its entirety on the big screen in 3D with my son!
And with the Disney Animation Fall blockbusters, come the Disney Animation amazing short features! “Feast,” a new short from first-time director Patrick Osborne (head of animation, “Paperman”) and Walt Disney Animation Studios, is the story of one man’s love life as seen through the eyes of his best friend and dog, Winston, and revealed bite by bite through the meals they share. The short opens on Nov. 7, 2014, in front of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Big Hero 6.”
Last year we had “Mickey’s Get a Horse” (my favorite animated short!), the year before we had Paperman. This year we have “Feast,” and we loved hearing how the idea for the movie’s production came to be!
“Director Patrick Osborne, who joined Walt Disney Animation Studios in 2008 as an animator on “Bolt,” took part in the Studio’s Spark program—which invites artists to explore their own unique ideas in a month-long project that is presented to the Studio team. His experimental short “Pet” was a hit among his fellow Disney artists. Osborne, whose credits Disney’s 2010 feature “Tangled” and 2012’s Oscar®-winning short “Paperman,” for which he served as head of animation, was later tapped as co-head of animation for the upcoming feature “Big Hero 6.” But his plans changed when he pitched the idea for “Feast” as part of WDAS’ new shorts program—the project was greenlit with Osborne as director. And producer Kristina Reed produced 2012’s Oscar®-winning short “Paperman,” I met her on my first Disney press trip!
But Wait! Hold the Presses! I just received a second sneak peak of Big Hero 6!
Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name (and every Marvel movie that Disney touches turns to gold!) , and featuring breathtaking action with all the heart and humor audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studios, “Big Hero 6” is directed by Don Hall (“Winnie the Pooh”) and Chris Williams (“Bolt”), and produced by Roy Conli (“Tangled”), and here they are!
Disclosure: Disney invited me on this press trip and paid all of my expenses. No other compensation was received. All opinions are always 100% my own and honest.
BIG HERO 6 Opens 11/7/14 in 3D!
