We have been working with our favorite Popsicle friends by talking about their Popsicle Rules Guidebook which can be downloaded at www.popsiclerules.com! My son is really the force behind these types of rules in our house, here he is with his #1 Rule – “Enjoy Your Popsicle At All Times! But my son also has another favorite rule, one that he has been actively following since he was a toddler:
My generation dressed up only for Halloween, but today’s youth wear their costumes all year round! There are Princesses and Pirates all 0ver the playground where I live, and sometimes one in my home! And sometimes we even see Davey Crockett’s dad!
We still have several weeks left of Summer, so lets talk about Summer Rules. We are keeping Summer alive by staying cool, that is how we get through August, we use the “Get Wet Rule!”
Lastly, for us New Yorkers, where school starts after Labor Day, we try to prolong our Summer as long as possible. We do not want to think about “Back to School,” so to keep Summer going, we have a “Get Out Of Town Rule!” Also known as our “End Summer with An Awesome Vacation Rule!”
We are ending our Summer on vacation, returning after Labor Day, right before the beginning of school. This year that means literally two days before school starts! We are headed down South to a land filled with roller coasters and water slides, watch the blog for my pictures!
Your turn, tell me what rules you have for keeping your summer going as long as possible!

My kids love it when they have Wacky Wednesdays at their school and they can dress silly. I think it’s so much fun for the kiddos.
I love your son’s rules and I wish our schools waited to go back as they are already back in school. I’ll have to buy some popsicles and make some rules of our own.
I hate that our schools go back so early. (I do love that they get out close to Memorial Day, though.) We take every opportunity to be in the water – in the evenings or on weekends now. And my son’s birthday is over Labor Day weekend, so we’ll definitely be throwing a party to celebrate him (and the end of summer.)
Many of the NJ schools did not get out till well into June and now will not restart until after Labor Day. We are having a much cooler and it seems to be prepping kids and their families that it’s time to prep for back to school
Love your son’s rules – they suit summer to a ‘T’
My kiddo’s sensory challenges prevent a lot of dress up play but he does have some awesome PJs that look like costumes that he wears year round, and even outside to play in.
This is such an adorable post! I love the popsicle rules. Your son is so handsome and such a good sport!
I like those rules particularly the get out of town rule, I am overdue for that rule and could use a mini-vacay right about now!
These are some great rules! We follow many of them as well. Looks like you are one amazing dad!
I wish I could dress up silly sometimes. Lol. It looks like fun! My clients would think I am crazy though.
Our generation only dressed up for Halloween too. We were missing out. 🙂 My son has a costume trunk, and he utilizes it. 😉 Love the Davey Crockett hat, we’ve got one that is similar.
All that being said, hurrah for popsicle rules!
I love seeing kids dress up all through the year. It really lets them express their creativity and be a kid. I love the roller coaster rule. I scream as loud as I can even when it’s not scary just to annoy my kids 🙂
Those rules are pretty awesome, it looks like a lot of fun is being had! Why not dress up silly? It’s fun and gives the kids a good laugh so I say, why not! Super fun!
Their rules sound like a lot of fun! We’re living by spending as much time in the pool or at the beach as possible!
Well, since I am from Trinidad, ‘summer’ lasts all year round. This means that we go to the beach quite a bit. It’s a big rule of mine…I cannot be away from the sea for long periods of time. 🙂
Michigan starts after Labor Day too. It freaks me out how much of the country has already begun! I’m taking a trip to the land of the sun this month too. 🙂
The biggest one I’ve followed this summer is keeping the TV off and encouraging the kiddos to play, whether indoors or outdoors. It’s funny the things they’ll come up with when they are forced to entertain themselves. Hope you enjoy the slides and roller coasters.
I am definitely a Get Out of Town type of girl before the summer is over. I love that your son likes to dress up year round too!
Survive Summer! with 2 teenagers, 100 degrees and 38 weeks pregnant is the only rule that matters. My kids rules are stay in the pool until you are all wrinkled and get mommy’s floors wet right after she has cleaned them.
Oh how fun!!! I love all of your rules. Popsicles are so much fun, perfect for summer!
Looks like you nailed those summer rules this summer! Plus, it’s always nice to have a cold treat after a hot summer day packed with fun activities!
costumes are an everyday occurrence here too. we got the roller coaster one this summer!
We like your rules, one of our rules is never miss a moment to enjoy a popsicle or an ice cream during summer because fall and winter are to follow
Kiddo gets pretty crazy with her clothes too. She’s so cute and silly. But, there are times when I have to question whether I really want to take her out in public dressed sooooo silly at times.
These are fun! My daughter definitely follows the dress silly rule often.
I like the Dress Silly rule! It’s always good be able to laugh at yourself and maybe make others smile too.
Whoa! You guys don’t go back to school til after Labor Day!?! No fair! I wish we did – our went back this past Monday. Boo!
Dressing silly is my fave. Even my baby loves her necklaces and bracelets!
I don’t think you are ever too old for silly dress up. Or Popsicles for that matter 🙂
We love Popsicles! Looks like you had a great summer Mitch. Hope you have an even better Fall.
My daughter loves the rollercoaster rule! Her and her friends always go to Carowinds and they love it!
I support the slide rule 100%. If you turn down a slide something is wrong! I also have a rule that says, “You must ENJOY popsicles!”
He is so sweet! And, you are so right about costumes being a-okay year-round. I see little ones all the time dressed up in the store!
Now these are rules i like! What a great idea. Thank you for sharing. I love seeing all the kids in costumes why not enjoy being a kid.
I love the popsicle rule! We keep our fun going by getting out of the house to explore nature as much as possible. Thanks for sharing!
I am down with all of the rules. Slide, cannonball, water balloons and popsicles. Yes to all!!
I love your end of summer rule! We need to implement that around here. I am not looking forward to back to school. Have to stretch summer as long as I can.
