During the week I do not have time to spend on making breakfast. The blogging rituals start early, setting up posts, tweets, and assisting others. And I have to feed two of us, that’s twice as much time that I do not have! My son rolls out of bed and does occasionally have the audacity to ask me to cook something, but we always have less than one hour to get ready, so there is just no time. I also have to eat as I am headed to the gym after drop off. I was happy to try this new cereal in a sponsored post to see if it would inspire our morning meal!
Cereal is the item that of course works the best and fastest. It takes almost no time and the finished dishes may not even make it to the sink until the afternoon, but this is a meal that will not make us late! As long as I remember to have milk in the refrigerator! (That is a running joke here, my spouse drinks a lot of milk so I always have several gallons on hand at any given time.)
And then here comes Cheerios Protein! Firstly, this was the first real cereal we gave our son when he was a baby. I suspect almost everyone starts their kids off this way, that’s why Cheerios is the #1 cereal in America (one of every 10 boxes of cereal sold in America is a box of Cheerios!). Secondly, I had in the past sought out a higher-end cereal that had extra protein (overly expensive) because as I said, I take my son to school every morning and then head straight to the gym; the extra protein supports my daily workouts!
So we have started on this regimen of Cheerios in the morning. My son has some nut allergies, only a minor one to almonds, so I eat that in the morning to start my day. And it is “Cinnamon Almond.” Cinnamon is now touted as having some real health value, and almonds are a super food!
Paul gets the “Oats & Honey” Cheerios Protein: “Cheerios Protein Oats & Honey includes oats and honey sweetened whole grain oat cereal with crunchy oat granola clusters and real honey.” As an 11 year old this doesn’t mean a lot to him except for the honey part. Many of you have seen me take pictures of him at the Farmer’s market on Saturdays, he stops and samples all the honey products he can! I have also taken the opportunity to explain the importance of protein and how it will help him after school when he spends two hours at the playground playing sports. That information piques his interest quickly! Me, I am thrilled that lentils are part of the ingredients in his box, I know they are healthy!
“I didn’t think it would be good, I thought it was for old people because it had protein and fiber, but this is amazing!” He actually said these exact words.
This is not a low sugar cereal. That is not an issue for me, I am just happy when my son eats breakfast, there were too many months where it was very difficult to get him to eat anything in the morning. As he said, if this tasted like what he perceives old people cereal to taste like, he would not eat it. He has to have breakfast, as a 5th grader his lunch period is too late in the day!
I like Cheerios Protein because it is a great way to provide long-lasting energy for my son and I throughout the day: it’s a good source of fiber, contains 13 vitamins and minerals, more than half your daily value of whole grain, and has 11g of protein when served with milk. I can get through a good gym workout, and my son can last the 4 hours until his lunch at school!
Please share your morning breakfast rituals with me and let me know how much time you have for breakfast, and if cereal will save you time if it is not doing so already!

We always eat Cheerios here in our house and I know for a fact that I don’t get enough protein in my diet, so I will have to pick up a box of these!
Ooo i have not had cheerios in years,Thanks for the reminder i will check if they have these flavors in the store over here.My kids love weetabix or porridge with warm milk in the morning if its cold.In the summer its all about coco pops lol.
I love that you are hitting up breakfast with your AWESOME tshirt on. That’s the best way to start a day!
We are definitely a cheerios family! I will have to keep my eye out for this.
I like that they have added protein. It’s so hard to have a quick breakfast that has enough protein to keep us awake, alert and on our toes.
One of every ten boxes sold is Cheerios! That’s amazing! Love this protein boosted version; that’s a nice twist.
I’m glad to hear it’s tasty, and not an ‘old person’s’ cereal. 😉 I like Cheerios, so no doubt we’ll try this version too.
We have hot breakfast many days (the kids and hubby like that a lot) but there are days where it’s too hectic to get it in and we have cereal or (gasp) microwave pancakes. Fortunately, the kids like that too. I don’t eat their hot breakfast, but I do indulge in cereal for lunch sometimes, so this would be good to have around for me too!
I’ll have to look for this. We eat a lot of cereal at my house. I usually go for the multi-grain Cheerios.
I love Cheerios. Nice to have protein in the them as it will keep you fuller throughout the day.
My daughter loves Cheerios! I must try these out, I would love to add more protein to her diet!
I am loving all the new varieties of Cheerio’s that are available now. I haven’t seen the protein kind yet, but with my hubs working out every morning, this would be a great start to his day!
I like steel cut oatmeal cooked with vanilla almond soy milk top with coconuts and nuts.Takes
ABOUT 15 minutes because I soak the oatmeal in the milk the night before
Did not forget about the Cheerios but willlook for the box to check fat content
Oh I didn’t know they even had these new cheerios! We’re boring, we always buy the honey nut.
I love Cheerios, but I’ve never tried the protein kind. They look great.
I saw these at the store recently and thought about trying them. Now I am thinking about it again!
We try to stick to muti-grain cereals and at first the kids weren’t too sure. But now they LOVE multi-grain anything. Have to look out for this!
Love the boost in protein. Cheerios is a staple around here. Love the “Get Your Awesome On” shirt, too.
Cheerios protein- that’s new to me! Can’t wait to try it
I love Cheerios! I’ll have to try these!
I could literally eat cereal for breakfast every morning and never get tired of it! Love Cheerios!
How did we miss this? We are Cheerios all the way and now that Shaunsito is 5 and asks health related questions we try to make the best choices as a family. I always feel better about giving Cheerios for breakfast and to snack on. Can’t wait to try the new protein one. Thanks Mitch!
Cheerios is one of the really popular cereals. We usually don’t have cereal in my home. I remember that cheerios was really yummy though
Ummm. Since when does Cheerios have a “protein” option? Those must not have made it to the Midwest yet or I would have already tried them! Thanks for the heads-up so I can keep an eye out for them.
We love Cheerios here too!!!! It was the first real cereal our kids got too! LOL!
Oats and Honey is the one for me. Also, I like your shirt! Get your awesome on, indeed.
I love Cheerios! Now if they could come out with a gluten-free and protein packed product….
Love Oats and Honey. Will have to try the Cinnamon Almond.
I’m definitely going to have to try this! I love carbs in the morning but then I’m dragging later from lack of protein!
How cool! I haven’t seen these yet, but I will definitely try them. We always have a box of Cheerios around.
OMG MItch you might have saved my life. My protein levels are very low and I need to help supplement it. I love cheerios.
