The highest praise I can give you for a hotel is that I would return to it again.
I found this hotel in the Fodor’s guide to Southern California. I have tried other forms of research and just find Fodor’s to be the path of least resistance. We checked neighborhoods, prices, and amenities. This hotel had all the things we were looking for.
In warm San Diego, with my son and his friend, we decided pools were a priority. This hotel had pools and slides. And not baby slides.
We had no idea where to stay in San Diego location wise. We triple checked our maps and decided the Mission Bay area would work well for us. It is actually in walking distance (we didn’t) to SeaWorld! We had a car so we had flexibility, but we did not want to stay any closer to downtown as we feared it would not be as scenic and it might be too congested. This area was perfect.
Lastly, since my Spanish name is El Cheapo, the price had to be right. I paid under $200 (that was our budget). Between AARP (even though I am clearly too young to be a member) and AAA, I was able to secure “2 breakfasts included” which off set the resort fee (which covered the pools and the wifi) and the parking fee so we stayed within our budget. We enjoyed a wonderful and scenic buffet every morning and only had to pay for our tiny little child (half price!). We were set.
Hotel management was thrilled to find out they had bloggers staying over and gave us an upgrade as a courtesy (disclosure!). That meant my son slept on a fold out couch in the living room (yay privacy!), and our bedroom had a view of the marina. We also had some noise – sea lions calling out during the day and night. We love, love, love these animals so this was delightful music to hear during our stay. They were in the distance so it was not too loud. I asked for the hotel to move them closer so we could see and play with them, but was told it wasn’t a safe thing to do. Well, I had to ask!
